In early late 1967, the US Army had crossed the border into Cambodia to secure the border areas against Chinese incursions from the operating bases in Cambodia. The Chinese military was in the middle of maneuvering and was caught off guard by the attack. This is a meeting engagement around the small town of Mamut near the Cambodian/Vietnamese border.
