Yesterday German defenders retreated from West Rapolva under heavy fire. Overnight Captain Kormin led a small contingent of his machine gun company over the Rapolva Bridge establishing a small bridgehead. Russian forces still hold a larger bridgehead to the south, west of the Lupolva Bridge. The Peninsula is being held by a mechanized brigade made up of ad hoc green troops with an attached Luftwaffe Infantry Battalion. We are sending the 198th Tank Brigade, reinforced with Engineers, Motorized Infantry, assault guns and heavy artillery; supported by the Air Force to smash thru the German defenses and liberate the peninsula by nightfall.
