Half tracks - Herr Straße Laufer - 04-11-2010

This is the place to discuss them. :smoke: :chin:

I like them. They taste just like chicken! ;)

OK. What do you do with German SPW 251/9s (Stummels)? Recon? Maybe ambush? Spotting? If I use them in any kind of offensive capacity they rarely get a kill or even a disruption. Most of the time I find a nice quiet spot in the rear, park 'em in a clump of trees and forget about them.

RE: Half tracks - Glint - 04-11-2010

Useful for bringing up troops and the extra halftrack units, i.e, SPW 251/9s, 251/10s etc, give some support to them against any infantry. Is it the 251/10 that has an AT Gun mounted as well? Not sure if that's in the oob's or not either.

Peter

SPW 250/9 20mm Recon Halftracks - Combat unit and very useful for recon ... until enemy armor shows up. Then I use them in a strict recon role, with hiding to be the key.

SPW 251/1 Halftracks -Transport/Combat armed. Useful for close support of infantry.

SPW 251/2 81mm Mortar Halftracks - Combat and useful in close support. I often use them to shoot and scoot against soft targets.

SPW 251/9 75mm Howitzer Halftracks - Combat and useful in close support. I'll keep them at a distance and fire, or use them the same as the 251/2.

I do use them all in close assault with infantry or armor involved. :chin:

cheers

Peter I am not sure about your specific interest in the 251/10. It's a half track with a light anti tank gun. I'd use it like all the rest. Each have their strengths and weakness? :chin:

cheers

RE: Half tracks - Glint - 04-11-2010

Ahhh! It's the 251/22 I'm on about. All the support these halftracks can supply has to be useful in certain circumstances? Certainly not to be hidden away in woods and forgotten surely?
Oh, and thanks Ed for the comprehensive listings, much appreciated!

RE: Half tracks - Cole - 04-11-2010

Please guys if you don't want to discuss half tracks or read about it then let the thread grow.
Already this thread has given me some information I haven't seen before, specifically the 15 different types of HTs available. Also seems like the threads will move towards tactical use of the HTs instead of an argument about close assault, etc.

Good stuff here. As for my input well I'm usually a Russian player so don't have much to offer but looking forward to the discussion.
