I ve decided to position the bulk of my forces East of river Brolo, defending in this way the Bridge,
the only escape route of my forces, which are
due to arrive any time soon from East.

OVERVIEW OF GERMAN FORCES WEST OF RIVER BROLO
[Image: Pattonsgambit05.jpg]
This scenario provides a unique challenge for the German Cder.
There are 2 major tasks which are related to each other.
1) German forces which are retreating moving through Coast Highway 113 must be extracted.
2) There are 4 minor flags which have to be defended.
My Basic plan is to keep Brolo bridge firmly under my control as this is the only point where the Retreating force can pass Brolo river and exit the map.
Any force arriving as reinforcement will be commited to this task.
However it is possible that the Amis will be able to put Brolo bridge under fire and by this cause significant delay and casualties to retreating personnel and material
To counter this threat, due to the fact that i dont have enough assets to keep them far enough, i ve placed a number of HTs with smoke ammo to provide a smoke screen when needed.

TURN 4

Enemy has been spotted closing towards highway 113 from both North and South direction.Their intentions are unknown so far but our Intel Offizier assess that they could try to block the road in order to prevent our forces from escaping.
Our MG's and A/A Guns are firing at them with unknown results so far.
Also smoke has been observed which lead us to believe that the enemy is trying to advance and possible our fire is creating some troubles to them.

RE: Patton's Gambit German Side(Bluehand Raus!!) - Bear - 05-06-2010

Messina, Sicily is a few thousand kilometers behind the viewer.

Beyond the right edge (450 meters) is the beach where the US army landed last night.

To the left on Naso Ridge and the base of Mount Cippolo are US Infantry that crossed the highway, from the beach, in the pre dawn hours and are now dug in over looking Highway 113 and Brolo.

The German 71.PzGdr Regiment, Herman Goring led by General Hube has been on the road since morning in route to Messina.
They should be arriving momentarily, from the west (the top of the map).

PS. Hube doesn't know this, but he did such a smashing job here that he's getting PCS to The Eastern Front.

RE: Patton's Gambit German Side(Bluehand Raus!!) - cargol - 05-16-2010

71st has arrived!
Split in two groups retreating German forces started to move trying to reach the safety of Messina.
The first objective is river NASO and then BROLO River where the German front line is located. So far Allied reaction is somehow weak with mortar and MG fire trying to harass the movement of the 71st.Casulties are minimal
At Brolo front Allied advance is checked and a Self proppeled Gun is destroyed by our Flak.
