New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Philippe - 10-05-2010 While working on a counter repaint for a new mod I suddenly realized that I could apply it to my Panzer Campaigns mods. So all of the SS unit counters in all of my Panzer Campaigns mods have just received an update. I've made them as black as I can without becoming completely illegible. I even toyed with the idea of making the unit symbols white, but gave it up when I realized that too many of my unit counters use a light color. [It's ironic that I should be worrying about Castle Wolfenstein colors, when I'm excessively aware of the fact that German uniforms are feldgrau for the Heer (in different greenish and brownish shades depending on the period of the war and the quality of the dye lot) and pearl grey for the SS (with reversible spring or autumn camo for some of the field units). Too bad the counters are too small for a visually viable camo pattern.] To see threads with older screenshots of my various mods, go here: http://forums.gamesquad.com/forumdisplay.php?105-Panzer-Campaigns-Modern-Campaigns To download the mods themselves, go here: http://tfe4.wordpress.com/graphics-and-sound-mods/panzer-campaigns-and-other-hps-titles/ And I'd like to extend an enormous thank you to TheBigRedOne for giving my mods a new home. RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Ivan - 10-05-2010 Great work, one minor problem when I click on the Kharkov link on TFE4 I get the Kursk zip, or are they the same? RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Philippe - 10-05-2010 Thanks that. They're not the same. Kursk somehow got entered twice, once for Kursk, once for Kharkov. The mix-up has now been corrected. If you try to download the Kharkov mod, you'll now get the Kharkov mod instead of the Kursk mod (and if you try to download the Kursk mod, you'll get the Kursk mod). I'm just learning to use the new system, but the way TheBidRedOne has it set up, corrections are really easy to make. So if you ever see anything like this (usually induced by not enough coffee in the morning), just let me know and I'll fix it right away. Note that since my mod only covers plain vanilla and Volcano Man _alt scenarios, there is no SS update for that particular mod (because there are no SS units). RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Gasbag - 10-05-2010 I really like what you've done. My only suggestion is that you might want change the background for the unit information panel in some of your mods. I tried your Tobruk '41 mod & I found that when I right clicked on the panel the unit values were really difficult to read (white numbers against a very light background). Having said that it's clear that you've put a lot of time & effort into this project & I just wanted to say thanks... RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Philippe - 10-06-2010 Many thanks. White numbers against a light background aren't really difficult to read, they're more like impossible to read. But if you don't select the unit before you try to read the numbers you'll find that you're looking at white numbers against a very dark background. Even if the lighter background (the 'selected' state) were darker, it would still give you eyestrain because it would be white on a (now darker) light background. Make it dark enough to eliminate eyestrain and it becomes impossible to distinguish the 'selected' from the 'unselected' state. I actually had almost the same color backgrounds for 'selected' and 'unselected' in one of my now-vanished Napoleonic mods, but have decided that it's too important for game-play reasons to be able to tell at a glance what's selected and what's not. So the only solution that I've been able to come up with is to read the details of the unit in its unselected state. A bit like look before you leap. RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - TheBigRedOne - 10-06-2010 Castle Wolfenstein on my Commodore 64 rocked. ;) RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Ivan - 10-06-2010 My honest opinion. for what it's worth. I've just tried it on Minsk. I think the 2d zoom out is a definte improvement, much friendlier pastel colours. The 2d normal view however does not work for me, I prefer the vanilla Jison. The counters and symbols don't seem as polished and the text is hard to read in the side bar as mentioned. I also find you have to turn on the hex grid to navigate. If there is an option just to install the 2d zoom out I would go for that if I'm honest. It's great to see people putting their time in like this and I'm sure it will be to some peoples tastes more than mine. Perhaps it would be an idea to offer a zip that just updated the 2d zoom out side of things for those that prefer the Map Mod graphics in 2 normal. But that is a little cheeky perhaps. Thanks for you effort, hope you don't mind my feedback. The great thing about so many players creating Mods is that there will always be something to someones taste, you can even pick & mix the different Mods if you like or just stick with the default graphics! So well done for this and all the other Modders work! RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Philippe - 10-06-2010 (10-06-2010, 03:39 AM)Ivan Wrote: My honest opinion. for what it's worth. Thanks for you effort, hope you don't mind my feedback. If you don't like my 2D terrain, counters, and symbols, simply re-install Jison's mod on top of mine. That should overwrite everything on the map surface apart from my 2D zoomed-out counters. They use uniform colors rather than Jison's symbolic color scheme, so you might want to replace them with the HPS originals (or make a set of small counters out of Jison's larger units). With a few minor exceptions my counter colors are derived from actual uniform colors and my symbols are generally historically accurate. WW II was ugly and not to everyone's taste, and some people find authenticity far too confining. RE: New round of mod updates for Panzer Campaigns - Philippe - 10-07-2010 Just so we're all on the same page, here's what one of my unit box panels looks like when it's been clicked on correctly: My eyesight may be fading, but I have no trouble reading that. |
