If I would have dug a little deeper I'd have realized that. I don't have the excuse of having had an extra tipple, but I did have to put my faithful companion of almost 17 years down this morning. Not unexpected but never easy. He latched onto me during the Covid year (he was nominally my daughters dog) when I was remote working and in retirement he has been by my side almost 24/7 for these past 4 years of his life. As you say that is tough to deal with, even when you know it is time it is tough to make that decision. I had been putting off making the hard decision when he made it for us and stopped eating and drinking. By yes, still not easy.
