RE: Recommendation Needed Panzer Campaign Game Choice for Axis Player - Lowlander - 09-03-2018 War in the Pacific Admirals Edition by Matrix games, you might find a AAR on youtube, War in the Pacific The Rising Sun a lotta vids. Steep learning curve but best game I have ever played. If interested wait to around Christmas for the half price sale. Edit, you can speed up the replays to hyper-speed and/or no combat replay only reports. One day turns night/day, give units their orders, then hit end turn, you have no control over the combat, sit back and watch the results, keep a notepad at hand !!!. Campaign game will give you years of enjoyment, then switch sides. I think I will wait for a sale--as you mentioned. That game has been taunting me to play it for some time, but I never really looked into it too closely. RE: Recommendation Needed Panzer Campaign Game Choice for Axis Player - geoff - 09-03-2018 Wargames are too commercialised and no longer developed by genius personalities for their own satisfaction. I haven't seen any significant progress of tactical AI since Gary Grigsby's 'Kampfgruppe' 30 years ago where the computer's units just traveled en masse towards the player's position. Stopping and firing when in range. There certainly hasn't been any heuristic development where the AI has a simple short term memory and can function under FoW like a human. Generally, games which can be scripted in detail by a designer like TOAW will seem to have a more competent computer opponent. Most developers just limit the human player's capabilities, complicate the interface, and buff the computer side's values. I get that these games are best played with others, but I am just not interested in that until I am used to these games' systems. I think the AI seems pretty competent in some of the scenarios that I have played (obviously not comparable to a human player). Gent: Maybe a couple of play through games versus the AI to better understand the PzC mechanics of play... but IF you ever want to play against a human opponent (highly recommended), you will need to "unlearn" nearly every tactic that allowed you to win against the AI. Welcome and have fun! IMHO...Stop playing the AI and dive into this amazing game system against live opponents-the difference is night and day in excitement and enjoyment! Cheers, Jon I remember that AAR-a classic!
