RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY - PoorOldSpike - 08-29-2008

NOTE

The scenario creation unit points for Green Light were Germans 4230, Russian 2143, giving a total of 6373 points.
But Bootie has just told me each result must be reported as a 3000 point game.
So from now on all results will be reported as 3000 games, and the 30 games already reported as 5000 will be changed to 3000 in due course later on by him.

(PS- I'd change them myself but regrettably the Blitz deleting/changing system doesn't work properly for my computer)

RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY - PoorOldSpike - 08-29-2008

Incidentally if anybody's wondering what happened next in my cmak game against M1A1 which I mentioned earlier, my 12 Chaffee's used their phenomenal high speed (35mph) to run rings around his 5 assault guns+1 Panther and killed all 6 for the loss of 4 Chaffs. (X's mark wrecks, one Chaff wreck is out of frame)
The wolfpack of 4 Chaffs on the road at top left did most of the damage, racing at full speed down the road to get behind the enemy armour and pour shots into its back and sides before it could react..

Closeup- The wolfpack arrives at the tip of the arrow behind the enemy, halts, and begins pouring it on pointblank while yelling "You ain't gonna walk away from this Charlie"..

RESULT JUST IN

RISNERVICH 49, POS 51 (Draw)

Risnervich's panzers gained the lofty heights but there were enough beat-up Russian squads hiding near the flag to keep it neutral before he could comb them out of the trees like fleas from a hound dawg's fur..

RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY - Kelen - 08-29-2008

Quite a few of the games that have resulted in a draw appear to be because the Russians have had some hidden infantry stopping the Germans from securing a flag.

It would follow then that that would seem to be one of the best tactics for the Russians; keep some hidden troops around the flags and it appears that the Germans have neither the manpower or the time to flush them all out.

HEDGEHOG 16, POS 84 (tot win for POS)

In 'horns of the buffalo' formation, my panzer columns advance on the town probing for weak spots in Hedgehogs armour wall (red line) but find none and are unable to break through..
(PS- I left the trees toggled on in this pic to remind us all how the terrain truly looks)

RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY - PoorOldSpike - 08-29-2008

TACTICAL NOTE
(I already mentioned way back at the beginning of this thread how the Germans must drop off a garrison at each flag, so in the following screenshots I'm not giving away any tactical secrets that haven't already been mentioned)

This series of 5 Green Light endgame screenshots (me as Germans against Hedgehog's Russians) typically illustrate how the German attacker must firstly flush out/ annihilate/ upset the Russian garrisons at each of the Green Light objectives, then leave a garrison of his own there to guard it against counterattack before continuing the advance with his main body.
The German force therefore becomes progressively more depleted the deeper he advances into enemy territory because of the necessity of leaving a garrison behind at each flag en route.
This has a parallel in real life of course; think of the garrisons as troops left to guard the panzer corridor's line of communications from enemy infiltration and encroachment.
In other words they protect the chow line..
Arrows indicates German eastward advance.

Leaving follow-up units to mop up the Russians, Sphinxes panzer column maintains the eastwards momentum by neatly bypassing the congestion and heads for the distant city where newly-arrived Russian reinforcements can be seen hastily scrambling for cover among the buildings..
