Men my age to this day instantly recognize a faux bass, "Can you diiiiiiigggg it!?!" The funny part is, as awful as the film was and remains, it's based on a fairly deep and modestly elegant book about coming of age and tribalism. The balkanization of mid-70s NYC provides a comparable backdrop to the Aegean of Homeric Greece.
