RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - wulfir - 01-10-2007 Before they knew it they were all alone. Smoke curled up from the burning buildings beside them and drifted in front of their 105mm Feldhaubitze. The infantry supposed to provide close protection were nowhere to be seen, probably dead. They saw their own Leopards go hell for leather in the wrong direction. Scheisse! Where the hell was their truck!? One man of the gun crew began to cry. Freiberg, the hot tempered NCO in charge, kicked him back to his place. "Mein Gott, here they come! Here they come!", another man yelled. One single Russian wheeled APC came nosing through the drifting smoke, a wolf searching its prey. Half-deaf from the firing Freiberg shouted his commands: "Load HEAT - APC treeline - four hundred - direct aim - fire by order!" RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - General SP - 01-11-2007 RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - wulfir - 01-12-2007 Heavy enemy artillery fire blanketed the area in front of the enemy lead elements, especially in the south, where the Germans were. Comms with the Bundeswehr teritorials we're also failing. Nelson had to inform himself on the condition of his southern flank, though he couldn't really spare him he ordered his XO to establish contact with the Germans to the south and report back on their status. ASAP. RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - General SP - 01-16-2007 RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - wulfir - 01-19-2007 Moving south, Sgt Warner's Bradley crew where the first to regain contact with the Bundeswehr troops to the south. Driving along a side road Warner was surprised to be flagged down by a short and somewhat stocky German captain who however spoke excellent English. The captain informed Warner that a heavy concentration of Soviet tanks and BTRs had hit his Battalion hard. They were in desperate need of help. Right now. Warner reported his situation to the company commander, then turned to the German officer. "We'll see what we can do, sir! Where is the enemy?" Grining the captain pointed south. RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - Tiger_Reyth - 01-19-2007 O man u guy are hilarious! Where's Kojak? C'mon Rambo needs to stand up for NATO! (Ya right like I believe in NATO) T_R RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - General SP - 01-19-2007 RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - wulfir - 01-21-2007 Ellerbee knew the M1s of his platoon and the M3 cavlary tracks guarding the north flank were dead. He had heard the desperate calls as they had been engaged by enemy armor. Burning with rage he ordered his driver to break cover and head north. Maybe some of the crews had managed to bail out... Scaning the terrain through his commanders sight Ellerbee could make out the shape of a Soviet tank hidden behind somke. "Gunner, two o'clock, tank - fire Sabot!" "Identified!" "Sabot UP!" The M1 rocked as the 105mm erupted. Ellerbee could at first not make out if they had hit the enemy tank - but then it moved, it had not been knocked out. Dammit! "Driver halt!", he ordered. "Sabot! Now kill the sunnavabitch!" The gunner had the enemy tank dead centre. 700 meters. He could not miss. "On the way!" The sabot round bounced on the front hull of the enemy tank. This was bad, real bad. Ellerbee fired the smoke dischargers... RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - General SP - 01-21-2007 Cpt Nimod was at a stalemate it seemed. He knew there was at least 1 platoon, possibly 2 of NATO tanks facing him 3000 meters away. "INCOMING"!! Shouted his driver. Cpt Nimod flinched in his cuploa as cluster munitions fell around the tanks! Slamming the hatch shut he heard an explosion and another Soviet tank died. Picking up the radio mcrophone he shouted into it. "Kelt 1 , Kelt 2 what is your situation?" The radio crackled back" Kelt 1 copies. Repeat. Kelt 1 copies" Heading up now. Be there shortly. Cpt Nimod sighed as maybe things would change now. Kelt 1 gunned the throttle and lifted off and kept to the road ways and low. Cpt Sergei Rumkov returned to the battle again. Kelt 1 and Kelt 2 were call signs for his last remaining Hinds. Sergei wanted revenge! RE: Battle of Alsfeld 1985 - wulfir - 01-21-2007 -Stellungswechsel! The Germans were redeploying - it seemed like the crisis in the south might just be averted. American Panzers had arrived from the north and begun to engage the enemy moving passed REIBERTENROD. Streams of tracers poured into a handful of Soviet infantry advancing out of the village sending them tumbling back in retreat. American artillery had also begun to fall on the "Artillerie Bauernhof" - the place where their own 105mm guns had been overrun. It was a great feeling to see the heavy rounds impact on the enemy positions. The Germans were taking heart... |
