RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Weasel - 10-20-2008 Ok, so am renting: Guadalcanal Diary Come and See In which we serve Silent Night The Great War Tae Guk Gi Thanks guys RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Deadeye - 10-20-2008 Epoletov [SPR Wrote:.] You are correct sir! - Pacific is scheduled to be released sometime in 2009. The Wikipedia entry is here. Whatever else is said about Saving Private Ryan - it directly influenced Hanks and Spielberg to produce Band of Brothers and the upcoming Pacific series. Which in my mind is a good thing. They spared no expense for a 1970s film, and the quality of the cast is absolutely top notch. I recommend it, however, if you've read the book by C. Ryan, the movie will disapoint, but I guess that's the way it usually is. What about Kelly's Heroes? Not a serious War film, but a good laugh if IIRC. RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Weasel - 10-22-2008 I own both and yes, the movie always seems to be worse then the book doesn't it. RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Greybeard - 10-25-2008 Hello Chris, Ok - a few.. Hell is for Heros (1962 - Steve McQueen) The War Lover ( 1962 - Steve McQueen) Where Eagles Dare (1968 - Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton) Wind and the Lion (Not really a war movie, but good) Battle of Britain Sink the Bismark The Enemy Below Wackiest Ship in the Army No Time for Sargents More later perhaps GReybeard RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Jolly Roger - 10-26-2008 Hi folks. My suggestions: ALEXANDER ( Colin Farrell ) was an unpopular, but really good ancient war movie. THE GOLD of the DACIANS ( soviet production of the 70´s with 2 soviet infantry divisions as Roman Legionaries and Dacian Warriors engaged !!) 0815 German war movie - very cruel. The CRUSADERS, a movie from Poland dealing with the decisive battle of Tannenberg, the clash of the Armies of the Kingdom of Poland/ Lithuania and the Teutonic Order[/b][/u] - one of the greatest movies I´ve ever seen, but extraordinary cruel. Cheers, Klaus RE: Suggestions for good war movies - animal mother - 10-26-2008 Jolly Roger Wrote:0815 German war movie - very cruel. What do You mean by cruel? A lot of gore and naturalistic scenes? Cheers Michael RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Epoletov [SPR]. - 10-26-2008 Jolly Roger Wrote:The CRUSADERS, a movie from Poland dealing with the decisive battle Perfectly, now there are no doubts that it is necessary to buy this film ! :stir: RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Jolly Roger - 10-26-2008 Hi folks. I´ve meant a lot of very evil torture and battle scenes. Actually it was a polish propaganda movie, but it´s not a typical one, not too unbalanced and a very good story. Cheers, Klaus RE: Suggestions for good war movies - Outlaw Josey Wales - 10-26-2008 My 2 cents...... What I like about SPR is the equipment and vehicles looked real, not like Battle of the bulge where the German tanks were M48s or M60 painted grey and the US tanks were M24 Chaffee light tanks. Here are a couple others I haven't seen mentioned yet....... To Hell and Back Gettysburg Lion of the Desert I sure wouldn't mind seeing a series done about the ACW along the lines of Shelby Foote's three volume set. |
