RE: Interest in CS??????? - K K Rossokolski - 11-02-2010 I will be OOT for a wedding Thursday until Sunday or Monday. After that I can reasonably expect to do 2-4 mpd. Also, I advise all players that I, although on the first page, have only played ONE team game (years ago), which never finished. What I think happens here, and I've seen some of it even in the last few days, is that some members, for whatever reasons (because they think they know best, because they've played CS for a long time, because they have been on the blitz X number of years, because they own a cat named Heinrich Himmler, whatever...) feel they know best about a particular subject and do not react well, intentionally or not, when confronted by others with dissimilar opinions. I know there is a great deal of stuff out there about how people often come across as obnoxious bastards unintentionally because of the internet, because communication is in writing, and this cuts off much of the auxiliary communications pathways humans use when talking face to face (body language, facial expression, etc...), and while this likely comes into play in some regards, I think the key to much of what I have seen is that individuals seem incapable of reacting in a civilized manner when someone disagrees with them, even if that person is completely wrong. If we each simply vowed to respond without supposed sarcasm, or "inside jokes" that only the self-proclaimed "cool people" will get, or just plain mean-spiritedness, I think the forums would be a great deal more inviting. Well said. Dave RE: Interest in CS??????? - Jason Petho - 11-03-2010 (11-02-2010, 11:24 PM)Scud Wrote: Well said. Agreed. Well said, Larry. May I suggest that Larry's comments be included in the "New Forum Rules" stickie as a guide for players? RE: Interest in CS??????? - Glint - 11-03-2010 Well said Larry! I also think it would be a good idea to put it as a sticky in the rules. I think Larry's suggestions have been put across by the moderators various times and maybe a sticky would remind us all in the future, including me ! RE: Interest in CS??????? - K K Rossokolski - 11-03-2010 I think the last thing we need is more rules. Makes it easier to digest. RE: Interest in CS??????? - Larry Reese - 11-03-2010 Actually, these things cannot be rules - it's impossible. But they can be guidelines or precepts under which all visitors to a particular site can be expected to conduct themselves. After all, very few of us "own" the site. It's as if we're in someone else 's home. Simple recommendations to comport oneself appropriately - it's a privilege to be here, not a right. And we shouldn't be surprised if we're asked to leave if we bother other guests. Just my two cents. LR RE: Interest in CS??????? - Herr Straße Laufer - 11-03-2010 Spot on Larry. :smoke: It's the difference between code of conduct and rules to live by? :chin: HSL |
