PBEM QB question - ATCS - 07-25-2006

Since I'm still quite new at this, I was wondering: when you are sent a setup for a PBEM QB, can you tell what the weather/time of day/terrain is like prior to selecting forces? Reason for asking is that if you are playing a ME, your force selection would probably differ if you are playing in wet and muddy conditions compared to hot and dry, right? I mean, who wants heavy tanks that may bog?

So, do you just roll the dice on your force selection, or is this negotiated prior to setup? A little clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

RE: PBEM QB question - Kelen - 07-27-2006

I've only so far played QB's by PBEM in CMBO so I don't know if it differs for CMBB and CMAK, but I haven't noticed anything during force selection that would give you an indication of either the weather, the terrain, or the time of day, (all of which can have a drastic effect on your selection.

If you are the player who sets it up then fine, you'll know all that, but the other player is pretty much in the dark.

For that reason, unless I've agreed beforehand with my opponent the set-up, I always include full details of the conditions when I send him the 1st file. (Common curtesy really). Most of my opponents opt for playing in dry conditions and in day, but I have had a nasty shock on a couple of occassions where I've gotten to deployment only to find it was either at night or with deep snow! (both of which REALLy screwed with my force selection!

The other alternative is to play random which forces you to choose a rounded selection which caters, (as far as you can), for all eventualities. Of course you could always still opt for picking your favorite selection and hope everything turns out ok.

It's all negotiable, just like a business deal. There are several posts in these forums and at battlefront.com about setting up "balanced" qb's.

RE: PBEM QB question - Balkan Warrior - 07-27-2006

HI!:)
I just looked at Rule 7 of the Rules of Engagement, see below! and it says that acceptance of a battle is not final until both opponents complete the first turn!

So, if for some reason you are uncomfortable with the Set Up you receive in a QB, you have the option to not accept the game!

Hope this sheds some light on the issue!

In the meantime, have a good day! cheers

7 Challenging: Acceptance or Refusal

Players can challenge anyone on the ladders; however, nobody is under obligation to accept a challenge.

Players retain the right to accept or reject any challenge.

Acceptance is considered duly executed at the completion of the first turn. Once the turn is played by the first player (or first side for team play), sent to the second player (or second side for team play), played by the second player, and returned to the originating player, the game is subject to forfeit should either player discontinue play.
