Origin of a Beret badge. - Dragoon - 08-10-2006 While searching for unit history of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. I found out the origin of their beret badge. It is a antelope type animal called a Springbok. Apparently while deployed in the Boar War, a herd of them ran past their position as if spooked by something. The Springbok's alerted them to an enemy advance towards their position.Learn something new everyday!
