France 1940 Campaign report - glennav8 - 10-25-2006 France,May 17th,0800hrs. (turn 72 of 300) French and British forces are engaged along a broad Front stretching from Willebroek to Longwy. A fierce battle of attrition rages along the central front stretching from Namur to Givet,an estimated 17 German Divisions are poised to smash thru the Anglo-French defenses,remenants of BEF II and I corp along with 4 French corps are holding the line in hope of relief. In the north ,the shattered remains of the Belgian army have established a new front north of Bruxelles,having abandoned the city, reenforced by BEF III corp and 3 French corps,Waffen SS units are on the outskirts of Bruxelles and the King has fled with his headquarters. French reserves are pouring north to meet the anticipated German advance. The southern front from Fumay to Longwy has been the most stable,with fighting on a scale not seen since the Great War,slow advances by the Germans and trench fighting.
