Newbie here, with a couple of questions - mane_raptor - 10-28-2006

I'm a big TS:Europe in Flames fan. Been playing it off and on since it came out. I stumbled upon this site looking for user build scenarios and have DL'd a number from the supply depot.

I've been running the game on an older system with the ME operating system with very few problems. But now I need to make a change; allow me to explain.

In addition to being an EIF player, I also do flight sims, in particular the IL2 series (IL2/AEP/PF) and have build two (yes two) flight sim pits. Both have almost identical PC's (2+ gig cpu, 256mb vid cards, 1+ gb ram, and Thrustmaster Cougar joysticks, throttle, and pedals, running Win XP Home). The rig is set up with both PC's working off a LAN.

I'm a member of of an on-line fighter squad that flies on weekends and I usually have a buddy that joins in with the gang by using my second pit.

Recently we (my buddy and I) decided that we wanted to use the setup to run a few head-to-head games of EIF.

To this end, I'm wondering the following:

Can I get EIF to run under XP? If so, what sort of problems can I figure on encountering?

Since I'll need a second copy of EIF to run on the other pit, is the game still available? Or is there another way (No-CD crack) that I can set this up?

Any help will be gratfully accepted.

I can only answer some of the questions.

As you know Talonsoft is out of business. Matrix games bought the rights & is planning a new release of the CS series soon. Some think Christmas. There is some discussion here about that & on the MATRIX mb.
http://www.matrixgames.com

They are not selling it at Matrix yet. There was one site that specialized in naval games that had the gold versions bundled together under the title World at War (EFII, WF, & RS), but I could not find the site. Does anyone have that site info?

The new release is supposed to fix all the XP flaws. Some get a constant repeat of the sounds. The sound continues to repeat itself over & over & over. I disabled the sound on the options checklist.

Another problem I encountered involves converting v1.02 scenarios to v1.03. When I go to convert the scenarios I am given a dozen or so different choices as to which version of Word Perfect or similar programs I want to use to complete the conversion. I usually try for 30 minutes then beg a fellow player to help me.

good luck Jack

Thanks Big Dawg,

Yea, I knew TS went belly up. A shame really.

I did not know about the Matrix biz, thanks for that info. I'll hpe over to the Matrix MB and take a look. Having two PC's can be a pain at times because you have to get two copies of any game and make sure both are patched up the same, etc.

I'll have to look into this whole scenario thing a little later. I've never bothered creating scenarios in EIF before, but I've built quite a few missions for my flight sims, so I look forward to the challange.

But since my interests are now leaning towards ground combat rather than air, I suspect I'll be spending a bit more time here trying to figure this all out.

Welcome aboard...

Only problem I've had with XP is that I cannot play Linked Campaigns.

I believe you can burn your copies of your CS discs...

Cheers,
Mike

Welcome in the Blitz,

I run World at War under XP and the only problem I encounter from time to time is the sound loop... just imagine those truck sound running on and on and on and on :hissy:

To put aside the inability to play onliners :censored: that was in old times my favourite way of fighting.

The lack of the store of CSs is another issue. I'm lucky that I brought my copy back from States, but for my fellow countrymen it's almost impossible to get a copy. As far as I remember there was only EF issue somewhere in 90s and WF in 1998 or 1999... and nothing afterward !!!! That's probably answer why there is so few Poles in the club

Regards

Slawek

Sound loop yep i get that as well always wondered what caused it.

RE: Newbie here, with a couple of questions - Nort - 11-03-2006

I get the sound loop once in a long while. I just save the game, exit out, and come back in. That always solves my problem.

Cheers,

Nort

Yep thats what i do with the annoying sound loop.

I run XP pro and the only problem I get is an occassional Sound loop issue. Like the others I just save and reopen the file.
