Ha Ha...name this tank! - Walrus - 02-16-2007 Hi All Check this photo http://www.glowfoto.com/users3/Soviyet/image.php?iid=1188645&aid=13883&offset=0 Did it use to be a Merkava? Cheers Walrus RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - Fubar - 02-16-2007 I hope he had fully comp insurance. RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - Grumbler - 02-16-2007 M1A1 Abrams. When first published by strategypage it had a caption that included the formation. The story is that they were training and got caught in a sandstorm and being gung-ho, kept on going. Nobody saw the ditch. Nobody got hurt, at least physically. I'm sure their egos were bruised. The crew has prolly heard enough 'parking' jokes to last a career. RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - Narwan - 02-16-2007 Looks like a Merkava to me, a 1 or 2, not sure about that. You can see it has 6 road wheels and if I'm not mistaken the Abrams has 7. It also has the distinctive extrusion (hope that's the right word) on the sides of the turret just above the hull. The there's the barrel, you can see that there's still a bit of turret ahead of where the barrel is elevated. That's typical for a Merkava too. I think it's a Merkava 2 as it has the extended rear end of the turret and the turret seems a bit wider than the 1 has but it still seems to be equiped with a 105mm gun. So I'm going for the Merkava 2. Narwan RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - shortreengage - 02-16-2007 It is definately not an Abrams. As Narwan said, it is a Mekava 1or 2. More likely 2. Not to say some M1s did not end up in a Wadi/Arroyo that way...... RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - Weasel - 02-16-2007 I go with Merkava too, the back deck isn't raised like an M1. Also the turret sits further back too. And the turret shape is all wrong too. RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - Fubar - 02-16-2007 Also aren't those Tactical markings on the side of it typically Israeli? RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - PzHeinZ - 02-16-2007 I say it is a Merkava 2 too...now think about the crew! it must have been a mighty punch for them crashing down like that...I wonder how longer that gunbarrel held that huge weight before bending all the way... RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - brm_3k - 02-16-2007 Definitely a Merkava not an M1 for all the reasons above plus the most obvious one - the drive sprocket is at the front!! Other giveaway is the Israeli tactical markings as Fubar states. I'll see if I can check which version, but one of the earlier ones....... Alex brm_3k RE: Ha Ha...name this tank! - Grumbler - 02-16-2007 YOu might be right, maybe I had it confused with this photo; http://www.strategypage.com/humor/articles/20020429.asp This one is funny too; http://www.strategypage.com/humor/articles/military_jokes_200511622.asp Of course, you can't trust every photo you see; http://www.strategypage.com/humor/articles/military_jokes_20066111.asp |
