Higher muzzle velocity = better accuracy - PoorOldSpike - 07-26-2007 Each panzer below has a 75mm calibre gun, but note each gun has a different muzzle velocity (mps=metres per second) the Panthers gun has the highest m/v, then the IVH, then the IVD. Note how the Panthers gun therefore scores the best hit percent chance at all ranges, then the IVH and finally the IVD. Also note at short range (250m) all the guns are about the same hit percent because not even the IVD can miss at pointblank although whether its low-vel shot would penetrate is another matter.. (Note all the crews were veteran, stationary in summer midday, all figures will vary depending on crew quality/ weather and lighting conditions. Also, m/v varies with AP/Tungsten/Hollow-charge/HE shells, my figures are for standard AP) The same laws of physics apply to ALL tank guns/ towed guns of ALL nations and ALL calibres, namely the faster a shot flies, the more accurate it is. How the test figures were obtained - I moved the stationary target tank (T-34/85) to different ranges then logged each panzers Hit% readout RE: Higher muzzle velocity = better accuracy - McIvan - 07-26-2007 Well done, Spike, good stuff.
