Destroying uncrewed guns - Havoc - 08-20-2007 Seems the only way to eliminate enemy guns in HPS ACW games with the captured gun optional rule in play is to shoot at them with other guns. Even at one hex range, I get more fatigue hits on uncrewed guns than hits on the guns themselves. I figure that an infantry regiment could manage to wreck a gun carriage fairly easily by stuffing the barrel with powder bags and wedging a shell in the barrel. There should be an option to destroy the guns, even if it uses up movement points to accomplish. Otherwise your left with spiking them or wasting a lot of cannon balls to get theri full VP's. RE: Destroying uncrewed guns - Zaap - 08-22-2007 I had a 2 gun battery fire at a captured 2 gun from the next hex both in clear hexes for 8 turns and did not do any damage. RE: Destroying uncrewed guns - Havoc - 08-22-2007 I spike them unless I plan to use them. I am finding that it takes 2-4 shots per gun to destroy a gun section, so if you're running low on shells, just spike'm and leave'm. |
