Tobruk '41 Alt art / scenario pack updated - Volcano Man - 08-21-2007

Hello all,

Head over to www.volcanomods.com and pick up the Tobruk '41 art / scenario pack update. There have been changes made to _Alt scenarios to take advantage of the new Tobruk '41 update from HPS that arrived yesterday. Be sure to pickup the Tobruk '41 update from HPS first if you have not already done so.

As mentioned, most of the changes will take immediate effect. So if you started your Brevity scenario in the tourney already like I have, do not worry because all of the changes that would not take effect until a restart pertain to the Battleaxe scenario. The Quality Fatigue Modifier can be used in the Battleaxe scenario. Tobruk '41 is such that the rule balances out given that both sides have an equal number of good and bad quality units.

changes:

v.X

-Added a 1% replacement rate for all German tanks. This is done to represent more superior vehicle recovery techniques and methods. Supply levels are taken into effect and, given the low level of supply in the desert, these units will actually get fewer replacements than this level implies. In most cases it will be half this value or less, and no replacements will occur if the unit is isolated.

-Added an 8% replacement rate for all German 88mm guns. This was done primarily for play balance because of how the game deals with small gun units of two guns. Historically, the Germans maintained their 88mm guns and could recover them when they were lost. This change makes that possible but also reduces the chance that the allies can easily pick on and annihilate these small units in a single turn. This was done to allow for the 88s to be used in historical roles as well, and if the small unit takes casualties then it can be pulled out of the line to recover its guns. Supply levels are taken into effect and, given the low level of supply in the desert, these units will actually get fewer replacements than this level implies. In most cases it will be half this value or less and no replacements will occur if the unit is isolated. Keep in mind that one gun equals 50% strength of the small 88mm gun battery unit, so replacements will not be as high as they seem and 88mm FLAK units can still be eliminated. This change only makes it a realistic possibility that a two gun 88mm FLAK battery will regain strength, rather than the 1% strength recovery before. Also keep in mind that the FLAK units must not move nor be fired on to gain recovery so you can’t expect them to regain their strength on the front lines.

-Added a small 10 point objective to Oalala oasis in the Battleaxe_Alt scenario. This was done to award the allies for the capture of this hex and to better balance the scenario.

In the Battleaxe_Alt scenario, the 88mm FLAK guns have been moved back to their more historical vantage point of 53,31. This was done to both weaken the defenses of the center Halfaya Pass hex but also to give the guns a clearer field of fire.

BTW, the added 1% German replacement rate for Panzer Regiments will be seldom influential or noticable. The intent of the change is that in the campaign these units can be pulled back to areas that are in good supply and gradually refit. You won't see much of a short term change in smaller scenarios.
