Any PC experts out there? - Wolfman - 08-25-2007 My PC crashed yesterday, I've got it working again but windows refuses to recognise my CD ROM drives (disaster - unable to run games:angry:). I'm running Windows 98SE, looked in the BIOS and that shows the CD drives, but clicking on "My Computer" shows the C: Drive and the Floppy drive, but no CD drive. I've checked the hardware configuration and it showing no drivers for my "Primary IDE controller" - anyone got any suggestions? RE: Any PC experts out there? - Reddog - 08-25-2007 I'm no genius but have tinkered with computers for a while. Sometimes if you have a hardware issue (problem) you can solve the problem by disconnecting the power source and/or cable connection from the problem hardware from the computer. Boot your computer and once that's completed shut the computer off. Reconnect the power supply and/or cable connection from the problem hardware to your computer. Re-boot your computer. You will probably see a message that says something like "Windows has detected a new hardware and is making adjustments". That's one option that usually works. I hope this helps? I'll give it a try;) RE: Any PC experts out there? - Von Luck - 08-26-2007 No genius myself on this but a common prob you need to install the basic drivers for CD's Atapi comes to mind.Your boot disc should have them on it.Just install the boot disc then 98 again you wont lose anything not like XP where it does a clean install. |
