Can a T-80 get airborne ? - wigam - 09-09-2007 just been watching some vids and found this cracker. :) http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do;jsessionid=CD84FCA84F8172FD7517C943EAD1AB87?displayContent=148540&page=1 A tribute to my russian friends, Epoletov, Kramax and Vlom to name a few. Must say the T-80 is a great tank, if only they had TI/GSR in the late 80's, it would make some really great games even better. In a game i have going with Gary, i am whittling down some of his M-1's but his LOS is just too good and he can take me out before i even know he's there. RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - Epoletov [SPR]. - 09-09-2007 There is an opinion that action thermal imegin in WinSPMBT is overestimated. Have been thought up smoke grenades with the phosphorus, blocking TI. RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - matxer - 09-09-2007 I play a tank simulation named Steel Beasts. It is really a sim, not a game: used by several armies around the world. I can tell that TI (in this sim) really help spotting the enemy. Even in full day light, without smoke, it isn't easy to spot a MBT at long range. When you use TI, you almost immediately spot it because its thermal signature is very different from the cold background (bushes, wood, grass...). TI is really a technological gap and it tremendously helps spotting and targeting. RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - KraMax (SPR) - 09-10-2007 Presence TI does not make a unit all-seeing, and absence TI does not make a unit blind. Unfortunately in game winSPMBT - units with TI have overwhelming advantage. That is why so many of us only play 1980 and earlier, which is too bad because is such cool equipment in the modern era. If an OOB mod could be done to give the WP countries TI, even though they don't have it in real life, at least it would balance the game. RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - matxer - 09-10-2007 1980 is a special year: Russia hasn't TI, US does. But US MBT (M1 Abrams) can't pierce the front armor of the brand new T80 !! RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - KraMax (SPR) - 09-10-2007 wigam ------------- I think two tanks it is possible to transport on An-124 Ruslan. Some such planes are in Russia. Also that 1 tank can probably transport Il-76MF - but here I precisely do not know. p.s. Look on that site there are videoclips about Russian paratroops, soldiers and T-90 :) RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - shortreengage - 09-10-2007 matxer Wrote:1980 is a special year: Russia hasn't TI, US does. But US MBT (M1 Abrams) can't pierce the front armor of the brand new T80 !! Yes, but in 1980 the T-80 was only deployed in the Independant Tank battalions of the Motorized Rifle Divisions in GSFG. If even that. Most tanks were probably T-64A with some units retaining T-62. Not sure on the deployment of T-64B. Probobly in the Tank Regiments once the ITBs got T-80. The Czech deployed Soviet units had T-72s at this time. As for the M-1s in 1980... there were no M-1s in 1980. They were XM-1s as the tank was still experimental in 1980. I was a driver in the first XM-1 Battalion in the Army. 2nd BN 5th Cavalry of the 1st Cavalry Division in 1980. It was our job to break them.....in Europe was just then getting M-60A3 TTS IIRC. RE: Can a T-80 get airborne ? - KraMax (SPR) - 09-10-2007 TI the first generations were not too good, that it was possible to speak about unconditional advantage. I for example met given that sights T-64 till now the best in the world after comparison with the western samples of sights. In game we observe - unconditional advantage TI of any generation over usual sights. Also in game the moment is poorly worked - through which TI cannot see - for example special smoke screens, fire, etc. If to understand with game it is clear, that in it much is simplified - for example shooting ATGM from the tank straight off or for example GSR cannot find out motionless units or calculation of power of tank shells in relation to range of shooting, etc. It would be excellent, if developers have decided to alter seriously the engine winSPMBT. As I wrote above, the simlutation of Leopards 2 clearly gives a big boost to the gunner and tank commander even during day light. |
