Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Weasel - 10-24-2007 Does anyone here own this game? I am thinking of picking it up but was wanting some feed back or views if anyone has it. RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - shortreengage - 10-24-2007 Sorry, I only own the board game RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Weasel - 10-24-2007 I loved those old Avalon Hill board games, I owned about 30 of them in the 80s. I still have Third Reich and Bull Run but I miss squad leader. RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Mr Grumpy - 10-24-2007 Some of the guy's over at OPS OC have it, Volcano Man, PKPowers, Mike Bowen to name a few, it was full of bugs when released, how bad they were was a cause of much debate, i believe there has been a few patches now, but how much has been fixed i cannot tell you? They did say it was not like the boardgame though.......there is a Matrix forum for the game i believe. RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - jadpanther - 10-24-2007 I still have alot of my old wargames......they were great fun. Only bad thing was finding anyt quality players to play against. That's why this site is so awesome!! Thanks to the people who run it, they are doing a great job. And another thanks to those who put the time and effort into the tourneys that they put together for the rest of us to enjoy!!! Jad RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Greybeard - 10-26-2007 yep - us old farts that grew on a diet of Avalon Hill sure seem to miss those days.. I had perhaps 3-4 people I could play with - out of a high school population of nearly 2100 kids.. was never easy to find someone new to play.. Very greatful to the old SSI group for creating SP, and even more greatful to SPCAMO and Matrix, plus all the others that have given so much to keep SP alive and well.. the only thing I have left is Panzerblitz, and a few squad-leader map boards.. when we left arizona, some of our 'helping' hands got a little confused about what was to go into the trash pile, Goodwill, and on the truck.. as near as I can figure the 2 boxes full of rather tattered, well used games and GHQ miniatures went to goodwill.. but it's probably a good thing as most of the games had been unopened, and unplayed for many years.. paper goods like that have a tendency to grow fur here in Florida.. :) I agree with JP - thanks to all who have done so much with this club.. -Greybeard RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - RedDevil - 10-26-2007 I'm sitting on quite a few old board games.. Bismarck, Gettysburg, 3rd Reich, Squad Leader and all the add ons, Tactics II, Plus all those old Milton Bradley Games, (Axis/Allies, Fortress, Shogun, Roman Empire, Broadsides) and a slew of new Axis & Allies (Europe, Pacific, D-Day) and will be getting Battle of the Bulge and Guadalcanal here I hope, for Christmas. I wish I had some folks to come over and play them all as well :( My 12 yr old son is liking them, but he likes the X Box 360 better... There's a new gaming store in town, but it's a bit bare and they're closed on Sundays and only open til 9pm on all other nights.. been tempted to venture out just to try & spot some interested gamers, but I notice they all like yugioh and magic cards games or DnD or that new miniatures Axis & allies game.. :( RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Weasel - 10-26-2007 I had panzerblitz! The ones I can remember off the top of my head are: Third Reich Bullrun Submarine Squad leader plus all the add ons Panzerblitz 8th air force Gettysburg Napoleonic Wars Guns of August Age Of Sail I know I had another where instead of squads you had individual men, but I cannot remember the name of it. I miss Avalon Hill. Yes, human opponents were always hard to come by, which was too bad. RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Weasel - 10-26-2007 Bismarck is cool because you can set up battles on your kitchen floor and move all those ships around. That was a neat game and got me started into table top civil war. RE: Matrix Game: Guns Of August - Grumbler - 10-26-2007 Was Bismark the battle of Jutland game where you had blue ship counters and a tape to determine range and a Combat results table to determine hits and damage? I think I still have the counters somewhere. I would love to find a WW1 era naval game for the computer. There was a series out called "Great Naval Battles" but I never had any luck getting them ( there were 4) to run. I tried 'Fighting Steel', which had good graphics, but sucked as a game. |
