Tech question - Fubar - 11-12-2007

I'm in the middle of setting up both WinSPWW2 and WinSPMBT on my new PC but for some reason they just don't like my monitor, every time i start the games i'm getting a different resolution or it starts in a very small window with no sound.

I'm using a 22" widescreen TFT set on 1680x1050. I know the games don't support a resolution that high but it still happens when i lower the res. :conf:

I have emailed Sharpnel Support but just thought i'd ask here in case someone else has had similar troubles.

cheers

Disable desktop composition in the properties of the shortcut and see if that helps things

RE: Tech question - Fubar - 11-17-2007

Finally fixed my monitor......turns out it has inbuilt software that works independently of XP. For some reason the monitor is trying to use one resolution whilst XP is trying to use another resolution.

Result......chaos. :conf:

I've disabled the built in software and all seems OK now.....touch wood. ;)

cheers

What a strange monitor, I have never heard of such things before.

RE: Tech question - Grumbler - 11-17-2007

A Long time ago some of the early Cad-Cam systems did that. They used non standard code to control the raster scan and freq. They did that because at the time there were no standards for Large (>17" CRT's). There was a flashable EPROM that sat between the input and the E-beam controller. You could tell a monitor was set-up that way by looking at the input cable. If it wasn't a standard CR232 19 pin connector ( I think, it's been a while) but 3 jacks like you see on a VCR, then it was a non-standard Monitor. They were used also for AV feeds. I played SP1 on a 30 incher back in 97 or so.
Radio Shack used to sell conversion plugs for them. Obviously, I'm bored and need more turns.

well if your bored and need a small to medium sized game to keep things ticking over lets play a game.

Kewl, one is on the way. I'll go for the same slot we used the last time we played.

Great. Look forward to it.

Go easy on me lol. Hang

RE: Tech question - Grumbler - 11-17-2007

Actually, I ill need a slot and an E-mail. It has been a while since we played and I deleted all your stuff on one of my sporadic clean-up binges. So I need a preferred slot and current address if it's different from what the blitz has. I was thinking something in your neck of the woods. China vs OZ, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea or any of the other neighbors. How about the 70's. Somewhere around Mao's death or a few years after.
Nothing like a new dictator to get the expansionist juices flowing.:chin:

RE: Tech question - wigam - 11-17-2007

Ok as for slots how about 1 or 3? And the ol email is

dominey(at)orcon(dot)net(dot)nz

And the Aussies vs china in the 70's sounds good to me.

cheers
