Into the Valley of the Shadow of Herroberst walked the LETO...DAR (no Vic's please) - Copper - 11-18-2007

Vic has laid down the gauntlet, and I have accepted his challenge. We've agreed to do a DAR of Herroberst kicking my ass live here for you guys on BLITZTV. What you will witness here is something that most of you may have never seen before:

A meeting engagement with no tanks... (could here pin drop, or POS moan).

This one is a ME 2000 1943 August Italy MECHANIZED battle... Vic has chosen the Jerries (who wouldn't with those nasty 150mm IG's!!!... and I expect to see at least two of them). I have decided to go with a light Tommy paratrooper battalion, stuffed to the nuts with ATR guns, 50mm mortars and six 76mm mortars with a mortar spottar of 76's in support.

This one is going to be a genuine gun hunt... mortars against guns...

I've added two platoons of 75mm M3 GMC's and a 20mm ack ack gun thrown in for giggles...

Now, for those of you who do not play a lot of mechanized battles, these games can be a real wild west, all depending upon what each of the players bring to the table... as the light armor we will both have can be potentially knocked out by a spitball... this requires some fancy footwork. But once again, this one (at least on my part) is going to be an infantry brawl.

An interesting map this one:

You can now see why I entitled the DAR thus... The two flags are on a hill that overlooks a valley from the german approach... this means that Vic can set up an artillery range of guns on his side of the map that have potential direct LOS to the flags.

My job is to crest the hill, but not get into the line of fire of any of those guns and hope to draw the Germans out for a fight... I will be doing this with a suckerpunch flank of 1 company of Brits from the west and a two company assault up my side of the hill supported by the GMC's for mobile artillery. I need to get my onboard mortar support HQ spotters into those 2 level buildings along the flank line to get a bead on his approach from the valley.

I also wasn't lying about having an assload of ATR's... even though they are the useless british variety, they will still be able to rough up de mini panzers pretty good and or at least keep them honest... any attempt for Herroberst to flank me on either side with armor will be met with a hailstorm of flicked boogers from the Brits... if all else fails, we'll call them names.

Thus Leto meets Herroberst the POSlayer... (and there was great rejoicing.... yeay.), so the minstrels will begin penning songs of heroic ineptitude and gutwrenching cowardice once I start facing those guns of Herroberst... And I will proudly 'run way' bearing my standard of the fearsome Chicken of Bristol...

Cheers and enjoy!
