Battlefield Smoke - Osiris - 11-28-2007

Often you read that smoke on the battlefield interfere with line of site..not just from burning units but also from firing units.wondering if this might be a nice realism addition to the cs series..anythoughts

Hi Rene,

battlefield smoke obscuring LOS..
i don´t believe that to be realistic for ww2 combat action even for larger guns.. burning building, vehicles, tanks etc. i never read or heard about that phenomena.
however firing ww2 small arms produces smoke which betrays the shooter. as far as i know this is reflected in CS.

cheers

I dont know..maybe not for tanks but nebelwerfers had lots of smoke when they fired as did katyushkas..just some ideas for eye candy...SPWAW correctly captures the effect of guns fired on the battlefield and it causes problem with LOS..the only issue I have with it is I think it disperses a lot quicker than it does in the game

I think when 10 or 20 tanks fire and drive around smoke and stuff is blowing up and burning or dust thrown up might be an issue and have some effects on the battlefield conditions..on the modern battle field its a non issue due to thermal vision etc

so maybe in the end its a non issue at all

Rene,

i made a typo mistake in my first answer.

burning wrecks and buildings etc. really obscure LOS. arty fire i don´t know..
í´ve seen fire strikes of a whole arty bn (rocket and rounds) at distances ranging from 1500 m upwards. they put a lot of ground into the air for a moment but no constant smoke..
....only if you use smoke rounds. :)
