Is there a difference? - gre81 - 05-13-2008

I have been playing JTCS and I have purchased Budapest 45. Is there much difference in the game system?

Yes, quite a few. It has been years since I played the Campaign Series games, so I don't know that I can list anything, but at the least, the level of units represented is quite a bit different, IIRC.

Well, for starters, the PC games are 1,000 meters to the hex whereas the CS games are (IIRC) about 250 meters to the hex. So weapons ranges in the CS games are several hexes, whereas most combat in the PC system is only hex to hex. (Some limited guns have ranges of 2, maybe 4 hexes, such as 88s and late-war ATGs.)

Organizational integrity is more important in the PC games. Formations should try to stay reasonably close together. I don't recall that C&C was an issue in the CS games.

In all, the PC games give a better feel for the situational variations from one battle to the next, IMHO. CS is strictly tactical in nature.
