new RS scen #9 - Mr. Guberman - 07-23-2008

Gents,

Here is the third of the "Blackforce" scens.

"Delaying Action at Leuwiliang"

viz:

3 March, 1942
Leuwiliang, Java: On the morning of 3 March, 1942, the dust
was beginning to settle after a vicious Japanese attack in the
dark, that left them with a lodgement on the east bank of the
Tjianten River. Throughout the rest of the morning and into
early afternoon, positional fighting continued as both the Japanese
16th Rgt and the Allied "Blackforce" regrouped, resupplied and
jockeyed for position. The Australians had had their "crack"
at the Japanese and the Japanese had "cracked" back. It was
imperative for the Allies that the Japanese not break through
the Allied position here, as rivers of refugees were continuing
to stream through Buitzenzorg toward Bandung off to the east.
The Allied line must be held. Australian Gen AS Blackburn called
for a counterattack to drive the Japanese back across the river.
Most of the day was spent preparing for that, though survivors
of the day have recalled hellish fighting here and there, on
the battlefield, throughout the day. The rear area was scoured
for walking wounded, stragglers and the like who were formed
into ad hoc units to fill in the empty places in the line. In
the afternoon Blackforce struck, strengthened for the attack
by a regiment of hastily organized air force personnel and a
portion of the King's Own Hussars, recently arrived from a near
disaster on Sumatra.
.......

Enjoy

Cheers
Curt
