Foul on holiday! - Mr Grumpy - 08-31-2008 I am off to bike up the steepest road and climb the highest peak in England, so you will have to do without me for a week! ;) RE: Foul on holiday! - FLG - 08-31-2008 I hope the weather holds up for you. It is a miserable climb in the rain. Are you going to be attempting Lord's Rake. RE: Foul on holiday! - Ricky B - 08-31-2008 Foul told me the road is up Hardknott Pass, past an old Roman fort. Not sure about the peak though. Rick RE: Foul on holiday! - FLG - 08-31-2008 The peak is Scafell Pike, not far from Hardknott Pass. Scafell Pike is next to another peak just called Scafell. There are a couple of routes between the two but the most common is called Lord's Rake and involves climbing up a steep boulder strewn gully. If anyone is ever in the UK and has time I would recommend a trip to the Lake District. The scenery is breath taking and the walking excellent. RE: Foul on holiday! - Dog Soldier - 09-02-2008 I look forward to seeing some pictures when you get back Foul. Have a great time. Are you going to be attempting Lord's Rake.Marc, We had a member of our group who was going to struggle with Lord's Rake so we climbed from Washead and took the Corridor route before the climb to the top, we came down via Brown Tongue. Monsoon conditions when we arrived, but the weather improved as the day went on, at the summit we moved to the south peak opposite Scafell hoping to get a picture if the cloud broke, as we stood there a huge gust of wind picked myself and another of our group up and dumped us on our backs on the sharp rockfield, i still have plenty of cuts and bumps as a memento! :eek1: All in all had a great day and it only "wetted" my appetite to explore the other peaks like Great Gable. When I came back from Scafell it left me inspired to try Great Gable sometime. It may not be as high as Scafell but it sure is an impressive chunk of rock. |
