RE: Hungary Tournament END - Mr Grumpy - 12-08-2008 Well done Sgt Rice and everyone who took part, also thanks to Sergio for another grest tourney!! RE: Hungary Tournament END - Dog Soldier - 12-09-2008 Congratulations Sgt Rice. Would you like to comment on your tournament games? Could you describe some key moments from those games? Maybe von Nev and Barbarossa can comment on the key points in these two rounds with Sgt Rice. Dog Soldier RE: Hungary Tournament END - SGT Rice - 12-10-2008 Many thanks to Sergio for leading this event  and to my esteemed opponents von Nev and Barbarossa; both are excellent tacticians and reliable PBEM partners. Unfortunately I've already deleted the game files so I can't recount specific turn-by-turn, hex-by-hex details. Both of the "Counterpunch" games with von Nev boiled to down to several turns of desperate street fighting in Kecskemet. In both games the Axis held on to the 200 VP hex at game end; my Axis eked out a draw while von Nev's Axis suffered a minor loss. The difference came from two game situations: In the early turns von Nev's Axis tried to delay the Russian advance with an armor screen in the clear terrain south of the city. They suffered heavily from Sturmoviks and massed T34s, especially the Hungarian PzIVs. In the late game my Axis were able to infiltrate most of the Hungarian light armor into the Russian rear; for the last two (?) turns they shut off Russian supplies and took some of the steam out of the final Russian assault. Both Cegled games with Barbarossa ended with the Germans in control of Cegled and scoring major victories. Not a very balanced scenario, but I don't recall many specifics from this match. RE: Hungary Tournament END - Dog Soldier - 12-12-2008 Thanks for your comments Sgt Rice. I think the Cegled scenario could be tweaked to be a more exciting scenario VP wise. Either the Russian reinforcements should come a little earlier or the VP numbers can be increased. I think it has the potential to be a good scenario with a punch counter punch feel. As it currently stands, the Russian counter punch comes to late to land with any effect. Dog Soldier RE: Hungary Tournament END - sergio - 12-12-2008 maybe 3 or 4 more turns to play for the russian to counterattack? RE: Hungary Tournament END - Dog Soldier - 12-12-2008 Sergio, That could work also. I will try to cook up a scenario for HTH testing and contact Foul with it. Dog Soldier |
