New member wanting opponents and howto - The_King - 04-09-2009

So I left getting into CMAK online very late, looks like I've missed most the active stage but still, I want to get into it.

I'm looking for CMAK PBEM opponents, 1944ish 2000 point area
if your interested email me at [email protected]

also, since I really dont know how stuff works in the community, how do I get into ranked ladders? I want lots of games asap

Herroberst accepts your challenge. Email a file to [email protected]. We can do a tutorial game if you wish.

The ranking is automatically based on reported results after I think you are out of boot camp.

g'day there - I'm up for a game .

Welcome The_King

There is alot of talk that CM is an old game but I am sure you will find plenty of willing opponents here at the blitz. Its a very lively forum.

As for getting onto the ladders, as soon as you join the CM ladder you go to Boot Camp. After reporting your first game you automatically move out of Boot Camp and onto the ladder proper.

So good gaming.

Regards

Wigam

I am open for a battle. Set one up and send it over. I prefer to play forces auto-selected, but we can pick our own if you choose. Good luck with your gaming.

thanks for the fast replys guys !

I've got 3 PBEM games going now which should keep me occupied. Its great the community for these games is still rolling.

technically im a noob at online, but I dont think it'll play that way too bad, i read my way through all the CM forums before posting here, and I trained up QB vs the ai with it having double force compisition; not a good way of training against human tricks and intelligence, but alot better than stumbling into the online inexperienced! I know my stats and stuff too so hopefuly wont be too bad a walkover.

ok: so I have these PBEM games. what happens when these finish? the results are posted somewhere and im in a ladder somewhere...?

also, general question: how badly does low exp (ie, conscript) affect tanks? I know infantry pin instantly and guns abandon super easy.. but tanks dont have those problems. where is the con? accuracy, reload time, command delay? only m8 mortar howitzer becomes just 48 points in platoon, and that is a total bargain from what I can see

The game is played out and up top at the tool bar you will see "report a game." The winner reports the game - you just follow the steps - it's very easy. You can view your ladder status after you report your first game at the tool bar button "the ladder" also very simple to work.

Well, many have tried quantity over quality strategy and sometimes it works. Conscripts are slow to respond to orders, they break easily, and they are less accurate.

Most experienced players go with a mix of quality depending on what they want to do in the game. For a small QB 2,000 points I might select:

Vet armor platoon
Vet or regular infantry company
crack snipers
crack antitank guns
regular mortars
regular carriers, usually 4
and to finish the points maybe some additional mg, tank hunters, or armored cars

I did by mistake pick a QB all conscript one time - did not go very well. Others might use them more successfully.

Welcome to the club.

Reporting Games
Once the game has finished 1 player, normally the vitcor, (or agreed between the players if a draw), reports the game.

Scroll to the top of the page and you'll see under G1 - Admin, 2nd one down a button entitled, 'Report Game'. Upon selecting that you'll be asked a series of questions regarding which ladder it is for, game size , outcome and who played. All very straight forward and painless.

I'm sure you'll win loads so you'll get used to this very quickly! ;)

Conscript Tanks
Yes as you quite rightly summised, conscript units do have reduced accuracy and spotting ability, and a increased command delay and reload times.

How much a difference varies; (I've had tanks acheive first hit kills, {ok they were 'green' rather than 'conscript' but it illustrates my point}, and vet miss with their first 4 shots!), so it really is a case of buy a few, see how they get on, and if you think their cheapness out weighs the other issues then hey!

You'll get some people who will tell you never to buy anything below Vet, but it depends on what, and how you plan to use them for. Logic will tell you that in a straight fight Vet will walk all over Conscript units, but if you are going to use them en-masse, place them in ambush, or just use them to lob HE around then personally I don't see why you need Vets. Personal choice and playing style.

Also, with the random experience thing in CMAK, if you buy conscripts you may be lucky and get them uprated to 'green'! (Whoohooo!!!), whereas if you buy Vets you may be unlucky and get them downgraded to only Regular, (shocking!!)

As i've said, give 'em a go and see how they get on.

Good luck and hopefully we see you climbing your way up the leader boards soon.

a single infantry company at 2000 points?
aw jeez, ive been aiming for 50%+ points on infantry- is that too infantry heavy? jasonC's rave posts gave me the impression infantry hordes were the bees knees ^_^

ah, well, Im giving this road a go; who could say no to a conscript rifle battallion? squads as cheap as 16 points each--> outnumbering a 2000 pt single company roster over 5:1
its probably abysmally wasteful with human life mind, but ive always followed the school of thought that its not a real victory unless your you take the objective by climbing a huge mountain of your own dead

Quote:and to finish the points maybe some additional mg, tank hunters, or armored cars

question: what is the use of armoured cars, ie, m8 greyhound etc? small, weak ap weapon, little or no HE, speed, little transporting ability and thin armour... where do you apply these vehicles?
