Night Flying Stuka - cavalry corps - 07-06-2009

I posted this also on the VM website after I saw a post there

Am I wrong in thinking night flying units only fly at night

In my alt M44 game I am pretty sure the JU87 units were only available at night , I would assume a night flying unit could be available on both night and day turns but not restricted to just night

Has anyone else found this an issue ?

RE: Night Flying Stuka - Dog Soldier - 07-07-2009

My understanding of night flying in WW2 was it was extremely stressful for the pilots / crews. Asking them to perform missions at night and during the day, was not done. Losses would rise sharply from physical fatigue and errors in judgment.

Now in the PzC game system I do not think there is a mechanism to model that. Thus some "night" squadrons would be able to fly day missions without penalty?

I think there must be a designation in the OOB editor for night squadrons so they only fly at night. I did not find it on a qucik look, but others more familiar with the OOB editor might know where this is.

DS makes a good point. However, the Ju-87D was equipped with such features to allow it to operate at night and my intent for flagging them as such was to simply allow them to operate both in the day and at night but not exclusively restrict them to night operations (similar to the night flag on Modern Campaigns aircraft). In other words, the user could decide when to use them, and when he used them would determine when they were available again.

In any case, it is not working as intended so I think I will remove the night flag from the Ju-87D and Ju-88S (if there are any in the other _Alts). You can remove the flag in the mean time though and it will be fine...

Indeed, the flag does seem to be causing some confusion!

It seems if a unit is ticked as night flying then it can only fly at night.

It would have been nice if it were either - then I assume they have the bonus of no intercept chance ...

units without night capability can only fly during the day turns - fair enough.
