Question, Italy '43 Scenario - Ken F. (FGM) - 08-19-2009 Hi All, I just purchased TAOW-III recently, and am playing scenarios against the computer while trying to grasp the rules and effects, etc.. I am almost done with Italy '43 (from the Classics folder), and I suddenly realize that there have been no historical withdrawals of Allied units (for D-Day, etc.). The Axis were maintaining dominating airpower while all I have are the same Spitfire squadrons and B-17's (Early model), etc. from Sicily. I have the original TOAW (from the late nineties?) somewhere, and I seem to remember historical withdrawals of units and airpower. Am I doing something wrong...? I am playing with the Advanced Rules (as far as I know). Thanks in advance, Ken RE: Question, Italy '43 Scenario - Currahee - 08-20-2009 There's more than one Italian Campaign scenario, and sometimes the names are confusingly similar! I don't think you're doing anything wrong, it appears the one you're playing simply doesn't model the withdrawals. I'd suggest Italian Campaign PBEM 3.0, by Kransdorf/Custer, which can, by observing some of the honor rules, be played against the PO. It's 173 half-week turns. I think it's on the TOAW III CD, not under classics, but under WWII-Mediterranean. It's also available from the scenario depot at Rugged Defense, go: http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1090 Don't confuse it with ver 2.0 by Kransdorf alone, which is not as good. Anyway, it definitely has the troop withdrawals, for both Overlord, and Dragoon. RE: Question, Italy '43 Scenario - Ken F. (FGM) - 08-20-2009 Hi Currahee, Thanks for that. I was just surprised they would put a somewhat unfinished scenario in the TAOW-III disc. Thanks for the heads-up on alternate Italian campaigns. I think I'll save them for PBEM. The computer gave me a very tough time for quite a while, but I don't think it will ever pick the Casino Line for a tough defense, like a human could. Sincerely, Ken RE: Question, Italy '43 Scenario - Currahee - 08-20-2009 For the TOAW III disc, the new scenarios were carefully playtested, but no changes were made to the "classics", they were just moved forward to this disc, so they weren't "lost". Sort of a bonus accumulation of Oldies but Goodies, from TOAW I, II, WOTY, COW... |
