Spotting units - Montana Grizz - 01-21-2010 This happens all the time to me: I attempt to move a unit into a hex and all-of-a-sudden an enemy unit(s) appears in that hex. I am assuming that that unit(s) had Op fire set to "never" fire on the type of unit I am moving. My question is: If I had left my unit next to the enemy, not knowing he was in the adjacent hex, would the enemy spot my unit despite the fact that I did not spot his? I am under the impression that both fire and movement within view of the opposition gives that unit away in terms of visibility. Another question: If I set Op fire to "never" verus any unit and then use direct fire and destroy the enemy, will my unit still remain hidden from the next enemy unit that occupies the hex the destroyed unit once occupied? Thank you, Pat RE: Spotting units - XLVIII Pz. Absolutely. Movement in an opponents LOS always reveals a unit. You are correct sir regarding movement. Within the restrictions of the hidden unit rules, some small AT and a few other units (which I can't remember) can fire with a chance of remaining hidden (01-21-2010, 01:44 AM)Montana Grizz Wrote: Another question: If I set Op fire to "never" verus any unit and then use direct fire and destroy the enemy, will my unit still remain hidden from the next enemy unit that occupies the hex the destroyed unit once occupied? You will remain hidden if you destroy the unit and no other opposing units have a LOS to you. However this does not mean that the next unit to have a LOS to your hex will not spot you. It's all based on random spotting. The next unit to have LOS may spot you. RE: Spotting units - Montana Grizz - 01-21-2010 Thank you so much. Pat RE: Spotting units - 5 Leichte Div - 01-21-2010 Ditto on what XLVIII Pz. Korp says about spotting. And .. just to drive you crazy : I was involved in a teamgame where my supposedly hidden and out of LOS units took some devastating Panther gunfire. We couldn't see just how and where those Panthers could see my guys. We checked our LOS back to where the Panthers were .. NOPE .. so how did I get drilled ... unless somebody else did have an LOS that we just plain missed with our checking. It ... was quite spooky ! How is that for random chance ? !
