Bulgarians for Budapest '45 - Warhorse - 01-24-2010 Hey all, Decided to do a mod for the Budapest '45 game, since I can't seem to help myself!! It centers around the Bulgarian 1st Army action from 26 March to 4 April 1945, where they were assigned to the 3rd Ukrainian Front, in Southern Hungary, and took part in the taking of Nagykanizsa. I did the Bulgarians for the Campaign Series, and thought that since the Hungary map already contains the battle area, why not?! I have a fair amount of info on this battle, the oob is done, but would like to know if anyone had maps of the actual unit dispositions at that time? The Bulgarians were in the South, with 57th Army to their East, and the other three Armies of the front between Lake Balaton and Budapest, with the SouthWesterm flank covered by Yugoslavian Partisans. However, it would be nice if I had maps with the individual divisions starting areas, if possible? The German 2nd Panzer Army faced them, near Nagyatad. A screenie is attached. Mike[attachment=2647] RE: Bulgarians for Budapest '45 - bdtj1815 - 01-24-2010 Hi, Interested to see someone else looking at new scenarios for Budapest'45. If nothing else the great map is deserving of use! I have a book with two maps that show, unfortunately not in great detail, the situation in the southern part of Hungary/northern Yugoslavia in March and April 1945. Even more unfotunate is that one is just before, the other just after the dates you mention but might be better than nothing. Let me know and I can easily scan them and send them to you. For some time now I have been considering what might be a possible approach to making good scenarios for this game still not sure which way to go but would be interested to hear your ideas. I am thinking about a number of campaign sized scenarios with different start dates. Information is pretty sparse though, or so I have found, compared to earlier years. RE: Bulgarians for Budapest '45 - P.Ako - 01-24-2010 An ultra interesting scenario that could be made is the Hungarian uprising of 1956, unfortunately there is not a lot of info about OOBs, specially in the Hungarian side... RE: Bulgarians for Budapest '45 - Mike Bowen - 01-24-2010 Sorry I can not help but it sounds and looks interesting. Hopefully it will come together. I would be very much obliged if you wouldn't mind scanning those maps, I'm sure they will come in handy. The map as it is does provide me with the area clear up to Vienna, which eventually I can continue this campaign beyond the initial 10 day window I'm currently working on! I'm stoked to be able to provide a new scenario for this game, and although my area of expertise as it were, lies mostly in oob/graphics, I hope to provide a reasonably accurate portrayal of this engagement! All help is greatly appreciated! This mod will require the use of the program JSGME, a swapping program that is very easy to use, as to not overwrite existing files, as I edited the exe's to correctly show the Bulgarian names. I can provide this in the final zip file, unless that's not ethical? In such case I will provide a link to the site to download the small program. Thanks again all for your interest. I also am considering the Spanish Blue Division add-on for East Front titles where appropriate, and a few other "Minor" country add-ons, my favorite thing!! Thank you Dog soldier for that tip, that is what I will do then, don't want to step on any toes! Mike |
