Not a software bug, but still annoying - Larry Reese - 02-19-2010 I may be the only one that finds this disturbing (or annoying is probably a better word), but it appears when the Matrix version was released work was done to slow down the 2D replay (i'm assuming some folks complained if you watched the replay in 2D under the old system some of the movement was too fast to easily not intricacies in the enemy movement). However, the detriment of this approach for me is that it now moves all enemy units slowly, even if they are not visible. Since I play large games, sometimes very large, this can result in 10 minutes or more at times (not exaggerating and 10 minutes is longer than you think) of no movement on the screen at all as the game slowly moves all the unseen enemy units. I tend to read books or do other things while this process is taking place. If there is any kind of update later, or if there is a tag/switch I can flip somewhere in the program that will revert it to the old setting (where it can work through unseen units like lightning) please let me know about it. It's a big detractor for me. Best regards, LR RE: Not a software bug, but still annoying - Troll - 02-19-2010 Hi Larry, I only use the 2D modes when designing maps, but after your post I played the AI in both 2D modes and the units move fast. I do not know if this makes a difference when watching a replay or the actual movement of your opponent via modem Host/Caller. Check to see if you have the FAST modes checked off under your Options tab. If that doesn't work, there is a good chance that your video card may be causing the slow movement while under 2D, meaning it may not support faster movement. I am assuming all movement is normal under the 3D modes? RE: Not a software bug, but still annoying - Herr Straße Laufer - 02-19-2010 Hi Larry, I think it is more a situation with where computers are today to where they were ten years ago. Faster computer speed itself might be the culprit? I remember enjoying Panzer General until the units began shooting across the map and the replay zipped by. Now my computer won't even load PG, let alone enable me to play it. I think the programmer will have to look into the code to fix this one? HSL RE: Not a software bug, but still annoying - Otto von Blotto - 02-20-2010 Sorry to butt into thread I too was a avid PG player and have missed it since it became hard to run and follow the action and replays but you may wish to take a look at. http://panzercentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45039 A new redition of Panzer Genral that works on moden machines and operating systems without all the buggy glitchs or having to use dos box ect. 12MB Free download and I was playing within a few mins also contains allied general and a couple of WW1 based games in the PG flavour.:smoke: RE: Not a software bug, but still annoying - Herr Straße Laufer - 02-20-2010 Otto von Blotto ... you da man! Thanks! I liked the play and the game until they morphed it into 3-D. Even though a fantasy more than a simulation the game was fun to play. I'm glad that someone tried to revive it. For it's time it was top shelf on my to play list. HSL |
