Who here actually uses "unit movement" or whatever it is called? - Larry Reese - 02-25-2010

Isn't there a way to cause an entire unit (reporting to a given HQ to all either move toward a given location as a line or as a column? Maybe I'm confusing games, but I thought I'd read that in our manual ages ago. If we can, and if you do, how useful do you find it?

It's in the manual Larry EFII p 34 "Organisational Movement" Two types Column and Echelon.
I've tried it a few times...never did anything for me.

I knew it existed, but have never used it, not even once.

I've used it in the Normandy scenario that Dan Caviness has in H2H. It does take some getting used to.

I use it sometimes vs. the AI in big scenarios, never against a real opponent. Too unpredictable for me.

Scares the hell out of me.

A single unit will not always use the "best" route if you highlight it and then click on a hex.

Unless it's an open road, I move my units one hex at a time.

No Grizz,

We're talking about selecting a headquarters using organisational movement and then EVERY unit connected to that HQ moves in the general direction indicated.

On the regular, individual unit find route routine, I agree it has some quirks. Chief among the fact that it seems not to take the first hex it moves into into consideration - for example if a road jogs right and then continues straight, it will drive straight across the intervening ground if that is the first hex - if you move it the first hex along the road, then it is fine and plots like ti should). I also find it quite annoying that it does not take blocks into account when moving. That's just silly.

I've used it on several occasions. Easy. :smoke:

Never on intention, though! :bang::bang:

I use it fairly frequently.

Gents: :smoke:

Never use "unit movement" and based on what it does... not sure I would ever use it

Maybe "unit movement" was put into CS as a way to manage large numbers of units? :chin:
