A problem about artillery and bunker - vionville - 05-21-2010

In a scenario about Kursk (McNamara Version), some Nebelwerfer units enter bunker and pillbox, however they don't recieve any benefication and don't cound as hard targets.

They are counted as guns, not vehicles. They are motorized.

Other motorized guns, like lFH or sFH, are normally treated as hard targets.

The only thing they differ from those guns is Nebelwerfers are not towed guns.

However, several infantry divisions have their own nebelwerfer units. These units could enjoy full protection of bunkers as other guns. They are, however, horse drawn, not motorized. So far this is the only difference I found between them and those Nebelwerfer that cannot get protection from bunkers.
Type ......... Towed?........Horse or Motorized ........Enjoy protection from bunkers

Field Gun ......... yes ............. Either ...........................yes

NbW ................ no ...............Mot. .............................no

NbW................. no ................horse.............................yes

"towed" means this gun unit can only move when in "T" mode. Otherwise it could move in deployed mode, and could move in T mode, too, and maybe much faster if so ( while as motorized unit)

I am looking into this - itdoes not affect the mod persay or just Kursk

Not sure if it is important, but sounds like a VM _alt scenario.

Well, I haven't changed anything with NW unit types / classes if that is the question. ;)

I'll say again - this is a game engine issue I am talking to John about. I think it is a bug myself but I am having trouble getting that point across.

I am still discussing this issue with JOhn but it appears that the Nebelwefer unit - when MOT Class is considered TRUCK MOUNTED while the Horse Nebelwefer is towed. The Towed Nebelwefers can recieve protection while any vehicle cannot get bunker protection so the implied Truck mounted Nebelwefer do not get protections.

I recall another case like this where I thought I had a bug with the same Nebelwefer class units because they don't have to SETUP if you are using teh arty setup rules - because they were implied as mounted.

Wow - does this impact any other motorised units - ie Artillery, AT etc?

No - does not affect Artillery, AT etc
and it turns out it is not a bug either.
John is assuming the mot Nebelwefers are truck mounted and vehicles do not get protection is Bunkers.

Thanks Glenn, what I hoped you would say....
