Recon spotting - jonnymacbrown - 06-06-2010

How does this work? jonny :smoke:

RE: Recon spotting - Liebchen - 06-06-2010

Choose a unit capable of recon spotting, go to the command menu, choose recon spotting.

Unit must have 1/3 of its MP left.

I can't explain the rules defining what is actually spotted, other than that I believe it is limited to units within the line of sight of the reconnoitering unit.

The only thing is, every time I try it as you say, nothing happens. Have you ever seen it actually work? jonny :conf:

Make sure you have the Recon Spotting optional rule turned on. Besides that, yes, I have seen it work; I use it all the time.

RE: Recon spotting - jonnymacbrown - 06-06-2010

OK, I click on the recon unit, the go to the command menu and click recon spotting. The recon unit then loses some Mps. I see this. Something should then happen. But not. It's dawn in the Ardennes, the enemy is 1 hex away but invisible. I try recon spotting (the optional rule is on) and nothing happens. Am I missing something? jonny:conf:

Unfortunately there is no hint in the rules to what criteria this rules uses to decide which units are/are not spotted, but at its basic level the more open the terrain the more units you will spot, in that regard dawn in forested hex's will be worse than a daylight turn in open hex's.

That is as much as i know.....

I find land based recon is less effective than aircraft based recon, but that is just personal experience and I couldn't say if it uses different algorithms to aircraft based spotting.

What it does seem to spot every time is adjacent counters, such as mines and trenches, etc.

"Works real good in the NA desert!"
I'm gonna keep that in mind next time I'm holed up in Mir Hachim. However it sure doesn't work in the Ardennes and I don't just mean in wooded hexes; nowhere, nohow General. jonny :smoke:
