Looking for a game. - Michael_G - 07-04-2010

I do not want to play a meeting engagement. I prefer Europe over the Pacific, but do not care what country I play. I would also prefer computer pick. I have all slots open but slot 1.

Hello Mike,

you'll find that most players here don't like the computer picking forces.. for my 2 cents.. the AI picks far too much artillery and never picks a FO.. those are my biggest issues, but there are others that the list would be too long and tedious to read.

but there is an answer.. it's where a neutral 3rd party picks the forces for you and your opponent.. I call it a 'moderated' game..

I've done this a number of times for people here at the blitz. If you are interested, all you need is an opponent, time frame for the battle and which game slot..

the game will be well balanced, not loaded with '0' size units or snipers.. and any particular purchase rules you and your opponent agree upon will be adhered to..

the game will be password protected (this only works with a basic security setting) - the moderator will send the passwords to the opponents along with a brief overview of friendly force make-up..

this has been a good work around for AI purchases..

If you want to give this a go, I'd be happy to set up a game for you and an opponent

Hi Mike

Welcome to the Blitz SP ladder.
I would take you on, but have no time for an extra game at the moment, sorry.

Just wanted to say that Greybeard is right on the money.
No-one likes the AI picking...far too random and you often get a very unrealistic force pick.
I have played one of Greybeard's 'moderator set-up' battles and it was excellent.
Very good mix of forces and quite realistic indeed.
Very good fun.

Good luck with your battles.

Cheers
Walrus

Another player picking the forces is a nice change but I beg to differ on some comments about AI purchase.

The force is often more realistic than what players purchase though still loads tank heavy sometimes. If you know dates for major battles AI even buys roughly correctly for that battle some of the time if it decides its taking place there.
So it buys sensible forces want it to buy Elephants or Koenigstigers pick a date when they were used otherwise you get likely forces.
Its actually pretty good for seeing what you should be using rather than a wish list army.

Observations generalising
FOOs tend to be rare begining of the war then nearly always have but it might be a vehicle.

Arty is normally fine buys 1 section per company for meetings on average, if it has trouble spending the points might ramp it up with offmap stuff or buy more for woods towns the AI does vary purchase on terrain to a degree, knows steppes heavily wooded urban river crossing etc.

Tanks you get what you get early Russians for instance might get the odd T-34 or KV but the rest staple stuff however the Germans will still have a lot of the 37mm gun rather than all 50s.
As late war Germans dont expect many tanks unless you are lucky there were not many left.

Transport can be a real rare beast to unless you are USA

So you are probably fighting with a force that is more realistic than your winning formula as its tailored to the country & date however there are problems.

Transport can be so sparse you cant move your ATGs

The fact the AI cycles through forces as it buys is however the biggest pain as sorting what you have got takes a while.

You will never get ammo re supply & on occasion can go the rocket route with your arty, argh.

You can end up with some real headaches getting thrown into some tricky situations, if winnings all you are worried about dont try it.
However it creates situations you would normally never play & can buy units you never do thinking they are not that good.
This is good because the unit could surprise you & tacticaly you might well find you have to play diffrently. No fast vehicles to scout with or a shed load of armoured cars but your armor is a crock of s... & most of my squads have jack AT capabilities.
Engage brain need a plan this is going to be diffrent to the norm.

I am in summer mode at the mo but email me if still want a game in a month.

Turning tank heavy off seams to produce a better pick for some reason as in more whole companys & makes very little diffrence to the number of tanks it fields

I just joined, also looking for a game, and would prefer my opponent dictate terms, as I am just easing in... WinSPMBT or WW2. prefer smaller games.
