The World In Flames Tournament - Crossroads - 10-30-2010 PLEASE NO REPLIES TO THIS THREAD. ALL DISCUSSION HERE: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=57207 ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT Here's Mark's ie. Outlaw J. Wales' philosophy to this tournament: If anything, I was looking for a way to spark some interest. I hope it works out well. Once complete, it could always be done again with different CinCs and people could volunteer or be picked to a different side. Lots of possibilities. I would like to see some of the stronger players mixed with some of the weaker ones so that most battles don't end up a stacked deck. It may take some thinking on the CinCs part. I'm kind of thinking CinC designates who wil be in the scenario and who will be in overall command of a team for the scenario and then both sides submit their commanders to get it started. That way, they don't know who will be facing each other and maybe change their mind to switch a commander after finding out who is on the other team, blind command choices. It's not like they got to choose who they went up against during the war. The whole of World War Two, year by year. After each year is fought, the results are calculated and made available to everyone. Tournament philosophy This tournament is about fun, it should hopefully not become too competitive as that is not the point. Anyone should be able to participate. The two sides should mix new and experieced players, to create teams that are balanced Rules The Blitz Rules of Engagement (and only them) apply to this tournament Optional rules are agreed before each Round is played. The first Phase, "The Prelude" is played with all optional rules ON except AF and VV OFF However, if a scenario being played is balanced for certain optional rules, they must be followed Points An overall score is kept for the the whole of war Additionally, a score is kept for all theaters of war for each Phase These are added up after each Round of each Phase is being played. Scoring: Major Win 3 points, Minor Win 1 point, Draw 0 points x SM of the given scenario Teams The tournament is open for all Blitz members who are out from Bootcamp The tournament is played by two teams; The Axis and The Allied New members may join in for each new Phase of the war Team members may retire from a new Phase if they choose to do so. They may return to a later Phase. Team with less participants need to appoint a player to all battles, but the additional game must be rotated among team members. Phases of War Tournament is divided into various Phases, ie, The Prelude (1935-1939), 1939, 1940, etc Each Phase may consist of one or more Rounds of battle (Round) Each Round must have enough battles to accomodate for side with more members. Each team member will play an individual battle (scenario) for each Round, with the exception of the smaller team where some members might need to play another round as described earlier Rounds per Phase A Round is simply a series of scenarios that are fought between the two Teams. One Phase may have only one Round, as The Prelude does, or it might have several rounds on Phases (ie. years) where there are a lot of scenarios available. The CiCs name a/the team member(s) for each scenario to be played per Round, without knowing of each other. The players playing against each other are only made public when Facilitator receives the team lists from each CiC, and publishes them on the Tournament Thread Players should be rotated between team games and individual battles, preferrably in a manner that when first individual battles are finished, these members are named to play on a team game of next Round A team game from next Round may be thus started before all the various scenarios from the previous Round are finished, to keep the Tournament moving. Before each Phase (or Round, if necessary), the participants agree which scenarios are to be played. Emphasis, naturally, on balanced and enjoyable H2H scenarios where possible Commander in Chief Each side will have a Commander in Chief (CiC), who is responsible for deciding which team member is to play which battle in the coming Round Each team game will additionally be given a team member who has the overall responsibility for directing the team actions in that particular team game Commander in Chief, as any team member, may take a break from a new Round, but should name his replacement before doing so. Each side should have a CiC throughout the tournament Facilitator Tournament should always have a Facilitator, that has the responsibility for updating the tournament pages on Blitz, and keeping the tournament going forward in co-operation with the CiCs A Facilitator may retire on a similar manner as CiC, by naming his successor who will become the next tournament Facilitator Facilitator is just that, a facilitator, who ensures everyone are having fun and enjoying this. Battles Team members report the outcome of their individual battles to their CiC CiC in turn report them to tournament Facilitator. Disputes Any disputes that might rise should be agreed upon between the two CiCs Facilitator will have the ultimate decision, should the CiCs not agree Rule of thumb for disputes: there shouldn't be any, as this tournament is about fun, not scores and results! End of Tournament Ideally, the Tournament will end when the WW II has been completed on all fronts. Any player going missing or retiring should not have an outcome that ends the tournament prematurely. This tournament does not belong to any individual, it should be a living thing that keeps going and going. Other similar tournaments may be started in parallel to this tournament, and other forums are free to copy this set up for their purposes. The problem I have is that for some reason I do not see the "Get HTML Code" option available when clicking the file? It is missing completely. Hence, no link to be pasted... :( RE: The World In Flames Tournament - Herr Straße Laufer - 02-14-2011 edited as I misunderstood the problem. :( HSL RE: The World In Flames Tournament - Dog Soldier - 02-18-2011 I think I see what is going on here. Since the file is a pdf, meant for downloading and reading, the blitz does not have a plug in for Adobe Reader to just post a link and have the file open online for members to read the file. This appears to be by design in the new_blitz system Raz designed. Having members go to your profile page, click on the folder, click on the file name, then choose the (only) option to download the file is the way the system is currently designed.
