Bridge builiding/Rubble clearing - KG_RangerBooBoo - 12-22-2010

Is there somewhere you can find the chance for clearing rubble or building bridges? I'm playing a Normandy Campaign and I've had engineers working on both for quite a while now and nothing is happening. I checked the parameter values in the help menu and can't find anything listed for those two functions.

Rubble clearing is supposed to be some fraction of the chance of building a bridge I think. The bridge building parameter is the values somewhere, but would have to look at the game to see, am at work now.

But the rubble clearing is a very low percentage no matter what. I put a single engineer bn to work clearing a rubbled village hex in Bulge early on and no luck after about 60 turns, so I turned it off - I think it was accumulating fatigue at night the entire time and I didn't want it to reach red fatigue. I generally don't even bother as it takes so long most of the time.

I don't bother trying to clear rubble either. I think the engineers work for one minute and then take a 59 minute break whenever you order them to clear rubble.

If you have a lot of engineers with not much to do just pile them all a hex and maybe it'll get cleared quicker!

When do you ever have a lot of engineers with not much to do?

In just about every title!

I have had no trouble clearing rubble in many titles. I think fatigue does play as a factor. At least I have observed, that engineer units over 100 men with little or no fatigue will clear RUBBLE to rubble in less than two game days in most cases. Sometimes faster.

Morale does not seem to matter. I have had D quality engineers in France 40 clear RUBBLE just fine. Really, one of the best things they do considering they are D quality.

Working any engineer day and night does not help. Give it a rest at night if they have been at it all day.

I tend to find the removal of Rubble crucial, especially since it often tends to clog up the roads I need to move across. If I have bridging engineers or similar, and no need for them at the moment, I will often detail them to remove Rubble.

As for resting engineers, some actions, such as the laying og minefields anywhere near the enemy, can only take place during periods of limited visibility. On the plus side they can of course rest during the day.
