Looking to get into the Tiller Campaign games - jomni - 12-07-2011

Hi which one is the best bang for your buck? I'm looking at starting with any of the modern campaign titles.

Danube Front would be that then.

Welcome aboard.

Rick beat me to it - but I second that. Here's a link with all the relevant info.

Since this subject doesn't come up too often about modern campaign titles, what makes Danube Front the top choice for you guys?

Thanks

Its map covers all of the 2 earlier games in Europe.

There is also the updated OOB (not without its glitches, but on the whole a more robust product than in the earlier series) and the revised scenario starting point (slightly longer warning time for NATO, although probably not as long as wold have been the case IRL). The premasis for NGP and FG were somewhat silly (WAPA masses at the border at the drop of a hat and not a soul notices, every NATO officer with a rank higher than captain must have been on vacation I guess)

I would also recommend Korea 85 for its unique play. Lots of updated (and not so updated..) old kit mixed in with the new, which makes for a playing experience you won´t find in the other MC games. That, and both sides starts almost fully mobilized, so it is something like WW1, only w. even more insanely murderous weapons.

As far as Warsaw Pact surprise is concerned - I was working cryptographic equipment repair in the communication center at the US Army Berlin Brigade HQ from '73 to '75. I had access to daily reports concerning Soviet and DDR military activities. There were numerous daily reports detailing vehicle convoys, what units, what times, what equipment, from where to where. Aircraft, how many, aircraft types, what units, airbases, how long in the air, flying from where to where. Maritime activities, etc. etc. There were also some remarkably detailed human intillegence reports, but I won't go there because some of that might still be classified. Of course, in later years intelligence collection became even more effective than in my time, the stone age early '70s.

No, gentlemen, I can't possibly believe they ever could have surprised us.

Incidentally, (I can't resist a joke) "stone age" has a double meaning, pun is intended.

If you guys want bang for your buck, I'm in turn 98 of 158 in f 14 Schlieffen campaign and there's well over a million dead with 3,500 guns lost. It's brutal. jonny :eek1:
