Reconnaissance and FOW in PzC - Archijerej - 12-27-2011 I was wondering about reconsidering of reconnaissance and FOW in Panzer Campaigns. What about implementing a system where units and fortifications in non-clear areas that are not right next to your troops would remain hidden, unless they moved or fired. Some units would have a patrol radius (different for motorised recon and, for example, foot infantry) wich would give a chance of detecting the enemy. Then, depending on concealment value of terrain and unit, they would remain hidden, be revealed, or be shown as "?" (as in air recon). Such a system would have several advantages: -it would encourage player to use reconaissance detachments ahead of the main body and act upon information gathered by them. -it would implement a realistic fow feeling of deploying against suspected enemy positions -it would protect the defending infantry and anti-tank elements from beeing destroyed or distrupted before going into action. They can still be shelled "by the map" if the enemy doesn't have time to conduct a reconnaissance On the other hand, enemy movements should be observed at bigger distances than currently. Important observation points for artillery were as crucial in selecting a defensive position as terrain masks for moving and deploying forces. Motorised units would in many cases no longer be able to use their transport in such a liberal fashion, because they would be vulnerable to long range artillery fire. |
