Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Jim von Krieg - 01-08-2012 Season two of the Greatest Tank Battles premieres on Wednesday on the Military Channel. Topic covered: Tank battles in Korea. I look forward to another interesting series of shows on military history. Korea? Hmmm, seems to be timely subject. I've been reading discussions on Korea lately due to Mike's Korean War Mod. WOO HOO! Jim RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Crossroads - 01-08-2012 I quite enjoyed the season one episodes. I wonder if they would be available in DVD, does anyone know? Looking forward to these new episodes as well, the previous season was available to Europe via Discovery World sat feed. Here's hoping... RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Skryabin - 01-08-2012 WOW! Never heard about this films before... Now started watching Season One simply online - great fun! Tnx for info. RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Jim von Krieg - 01-09-2012 They are available on DVD. I purchased the first season a few months ago. It's been playing quite regularly on the Military Channel these past few weeks. It is also playing all day on Wednesday for the run up to the season premiere. I especially enjoy the Kursk (there are separate episodes for the northern pincer and the southern pincer) and the Golan Heights episodes. Its an interesting mix of the overall battle and individual stories mixed in. Jim RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Gasbag - 01-09-2012 If it's the same series that I'm thinking of, History Television (Canada) started running it about 2 years ago. Some of the episodes are pretty good but others have glaring errors: in one Battle of The Bulge episode a Jagdpanzer IV is depicted but the narrator (Robin Ward) lists it as a Jagdtiger and starts reeling off the specs for the Jagdtiger. I don't expect everyone to have an encyclopedic knowledge of WW II vehicles but you would figure that the people who worked on the program have internet access & could've corrected the mistake before the program went to air. I'm also not crazy about the translations when German veterans are interviewed. The translator does them in a heavy German accent that sounds really affected. It would have been better if he had spoken in his natural (I'm assuming since the series was produced at least partly in Canada) Canadian accent. Just my 2 cents... Or they could have used - shock! horror! - subtitles and let the man speak for himself? :whis: Where can I buy these excellent DVDs? I have a region free DVD player so playing US DVDs is not a problem. RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Jim von Krieg - 01-09-2012 Amazon for a US edition, $11.99.. they seem to be on sale... Jim RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Crossroads - 01-10-2012 Thanks Jim! Conviniently, the US edition is on sale on UK Amazon as well :) RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Scud - 01-12-2012 My wife and I just subscribed to Netflix to stream movies to our TV through our BluRay player. Hooks up wirelessly through the wireless router. The documentary area has quite a few really good documentaries on WWII (and other Wars). Greatest Tank Battles (not the new one) is there, a couple of WWII in color, the one about visiting the wreck of the Bismark, and more, I just can't remember them all. $8 US a month and the first month free. Plus you can stream to your computer too. So far, no regrets, although a few times the stream got too slow and I had to come back later. We've had it since Christmas, though, and that hasn't happened often enough to worry about it. All in all, a pretty good deal. Dave RE: Greatest Tank Battles II Premiere - Jim von Krieg - 01-13-2012 Dave, I love Netflix, even if they had a major crash and burn trotting out their new pricing scheme. Netflix coupled with my I-Pad, this really lets me catch up on a bunch of stuff I missed from 2006-2009 due to Iraq... Also, I was looking at all the WW2 movies just last night and I was like wow, all the old movies I used to watch growing up... Plus a few that I've never heard of... Then there are the military history type documentaries... I guess the TV scroll was wrong as last night GTB 2 premiered with France 1940... Some real interesting stories from the French tankers... Korea is next week... I love these shows... Made me go back to watch Golan and North Africa from season one... |
