RS: The Battle of Angaur Island - Design Notes - Kool Kat - 02-19-2012 Gents: Here is background design information on my Rising Sun "The Battle of Angaur Island scenario in the H2H Testing Section. Features I'm really excited about this one! Map depicts the entire Anguar Island. It has a pretty accurate American OOB and a little more approximation for the Japanese. It features amphibious landings with American GI's slugging their way through the rain forest with Japanese snipers, rifle platoons, and bunkers opposing them. Americans need to secure the entire island which means capturing the capital - Saipan Town and Japanese positions on Romauldo Hill - a series of coral ridges in the north west corner of the island. Forces Japanese are primarily an infantry (regular and garrison platoons) force, with a small attachment of armored cars. Americans have a company of Shermans and a whole bunch of LVTs. However, the LVTs are thinly armored and even Japanese rifle platoons can cause damage to them! Also, note that while the Americans do have off board naval artillery (USS Tennessee) with its 14 inch guns, the fire support does NOT extend across the entire island. Balance Test game against a human opponent prior to upload into the H2H Section was very close! There was a 11 point difference between the Allied and Axis scores. Final score was an "Allied Minor Defeat" primarily because there were not enough turns for the American forces to fully engage the Japanese defending the victory hexes. Terrain, especially along the paths has been modified, to facilitate faster movement and the scenario has 5 additional turns added (25 turns total) - prior to it being uploaded into H2H. |
