Help with zip file structure - Warhorse - 05-04-2012

Alright, evidently I'm an idiot!! I just updated the Korean War All-in-one update, and was testing the zip function. to my surprise, when I do extract, into an unzip folder, I get All-in-one update, the name of the archive I staged everything in. Now, trying it into another install of KW I have, I get the same thing, when I try to extract the stupid thing into the KW install, it just makes that directory, instead of updating the files. Probably, anyone that has downloaded this has another directory in their KW called all-in-one update, unless they unzip into an UNZIP folder, and manually place the files in the correct folders!!!

What the F am I doing wrong here, this pisses me off, thought I knew damn zip process!?

Any help REALLY appreciated!

Mike

It's not you Mike. You will have to drag and drop all the files into the folder you want them in from a folder say in documents that you unzip the files into

I had the same problem with Civ zips . It has something to do with windows x86 me thinks

Ahh, thanks!! I have unzip folders myself in most of my games, but thought this worked before, what a pain!

Sounds like you would have to have an installer program like the game companies use.

It could be that things don't work like they use to because virus and trojan writers used the easy way to get things into your system.

Mike, zipping and unzipping won't check for outdated files or do any kind of "versioning". Junk's right, you'll need an installer program.

There are a bunch out there. I've used them and they're somewhat intuitive, but I haven't done it in years. Google "installer programs". There are free ones, and <$100 ones, and I thought I saw some that will give you a free trial. Not sure if that means a full trial or if there are limitations, but you should give it a try. Not as hard as you might think.

Remember, installer programs will be .exe files, so not emailable. Used to be you could zip the executable, but that doesn't work either now with some companies, so best to post a link to the file.

JSGME is the one I use. Freeware. Recommended.

Got it figured out, had something checked for keeping whole path info. Now, posted new file up top, just download into your KW folder, it will wrk correctly, just make sure you have checked "Use folder names"! That'll teach me to not do techie stuff whilst drinking beer!!!
