Kayaks go to war! - Kool Kat - 05-20-2012 Gents: I just returned from a business trip to London, UK! I met not only a fellow Blitz officer - Toni... but Toni was kind enough to share with me the British Imperial War Museum! Some folks may recall that I am a kayak enthusiast (own two kayaks)... and obviously have an interest in WW2! ;) Well, the British utilized kayaks in WW2... these craft were called "cockleshell canoes"... and I spotted one of the original cockleshell canoes hanging on a museum wall! Check it out HERE. Aside from the British kayak... there were lots of WW2 era equipment in the museum... BTW which is free to the public! It's one thing to "push around" pixels representing AFVs and other equipment... it's quite another to see these vehicles and guns in person! I've attached a few photos. Enjoy! 15-inch naval guns [attachment=3554] JagdPanther [attachment=3555] T34/85 [attachment=3556] V1 "Buzz" Bomb [attachment=3557] "Bangers and Mash" [attachment=3558] RE: Kayaks go to war! - Antoni Chmielowski - 05-20-2012 Great pictures Mike ! It was a pleasure to meet you last weekend ! RE: Kayaks go to war! - von Manstein - 05-20-2012 Very nice and interesting place. I've been there last year. RE: Kayaks go to war! - Nort - 05-21-2012 I was there last August. Awesome. I particularly like the AP round penetration holes in the JagdPzV. RE: Kayaks go to war! - Scud - 05-21-2012 Bangers and Mash. The most explosive weapon in the British arsenal. :) RE: Kayaks go to war! - PawelM - 05-21-2012 Next time you're in the uk, I recommend a visit at Imperial War Museum in Duxford, slightly north of London. 4 hangars of flying equipment and a land warfare hangar. Lots of familiar equipment like tiger, IS-2, su-100, t-34 and more... RE: Kayaks go to war! - Kool Kat - 05-21-2012 (05-21-2012, 02:09 AM)Scud Wrote: Bangers and Mash. Hi Toni: The pleasure was all mine sir! :) I had a very enjoyable time at the British Imperial War Museum... and it was great to have one of those "unusual" UK weather days... sunny, breezy, and temperatures in the mid 60's F! |
