Question re unit.dat files in VolcanoMan Mods - 76mm - 11-25-2012 I've been looking at the mods for a couple of the East Front titles, including Budapest and Minsk, and noted that VolcanMan's mods for both of them seem to include McNamara DBs but empty unit.dat files. What is the relationship between the unit.dat and OOB files, they seem to include much similar information, including attack/defence values, etc? Also, for these mods are we supposed to replace the existing unit.dat files with the empty ones, or what? The unit.dat files are generated by the game using the oob the scenario asks for. And so can be different every time you run the game. Depending on which scenario, of course. RE: Question re unit.dat files in VolcanoMan Mods - 76mm - 11-25-2012 Thanks, that's helpful to know. So it sounds like if we revise units in the game, we should do so in the OOB file and the dat file will then be updated automatically? RE: Question re unit.dat files in VolcanoMan Mods - Ricky B - 11-25-2012 The unit.dat values are used when you add a unit to the OOB. You select its type and the values are pulled from the file. To populate specific values into the unit.dat file, you either edit an existing, or add a new, unit, then click save in the Org/Unit dialogue window, rather than clicking OK. This will add the unit to the.dat file, or update values if it already exists, to match what you just did. Also, you can click on File-Save All if you want to save every unit type and value in the current loaded set. Then you can open a different OOB and click Update All and it will update all values from the unit.dat file. Hope that helps - it is all about creating new OOBs and values easily, and making sure everything matches up. Rick |
