Axis Opponent Wanted - Sicily-Brenner - Morshead - 12-26-2013 I'm seeking an experienced and reliable TOAW opponent to play the Axis in Steve Sill's up-graded Sicily-to-Brenner Pass (V653) - found here - http://www.dizium.net/TOAW - and using Oberst Klink's up-graded version of the game (with AA bugs fixed). I can provide a link to Oberst Klink's work if interested/needed. I have not played this scenario before. My turn frequency for the scenario would be between 4 and 6 turns per week (it is not a monster like FiTe) - reliably. RE: Axis Opponent Wanted - Sicily-Brenner - Morshead - 01-26-2014 Slightly surprised by the lack of interest in this one guys? Fair enough - but can anyone point to a reason why interest is a zero? I gather the scenario leaves something to be desired? I'm still interested if there is any interest out there....??!! Cheers. RE: Axis Opponent Wanted - Sicily-Brenner - burroughs - 01-27-2014 I'd say it's the length, Ross, that scenario is supposed to last for some 600 plus turns, at least in theory and quite a few guys dream of being on the receiving end which is the basic mistake in seeing the Italian campaign - that the Axis You'd like to oppose was on the receiving end - whereas it was a frustrating and horrible experience for the Allies - Anzio as a vivid example of one of the grave miscalculations that took place in regard to this theatre. Perhaps we tend to see that if Heinz finally lost and there is no point in retracing the path to the inevitable doom. However, I don't think it's that unavoidable for Axis in this scenario, but I am not sure. Still, a perspective of over 600 turns - no, thanks. And fritz - nay, thanks a lot. Finally, we're getting some low movement here in this forum. Dunno for sure, but I think I was the leader at the ladder here for quite some time until the end of the year - not that I care that much, so I am not 100 % sure - and nobody recognized this at all whereas I was awarded at the Tiller Operational Campaign ladder for my unprecedented aggressiveness (chuckles). This aggressiveness amounts to taking on guys who post at other wargaming forums and recruiting them at gun point for the Club here so we have a growing active community. I have scored certain hits so far so maybe all the guys are just busy fighting? ... Just like us, buddy, but rarely anybody might be such greedy and lusting for new challenges and / or titanic struggles as the Italian campaign. RE: Axis Opponent Wanted - Sicily-Brenner - Morshead - 01-28-2014 Thanks for the thoughtful response Marcin. I do appreciate you responding. I thought for a while it had something to do with my after-shave!! Just to be clear - this is the Steve Sill variant of the original monster scenario - which has been slimmed-down by Steve by moving to half-week turns (i.e. 190 turns, which I guess is still pretty massive when I think about it). I'd just note that Steve & Co put in an amazing amount of effort to address some deficiencies in equipment/OOB/withdrawals etc of the original (which appears to have been a mammoth task in itself - by Quisling). While I think Italy did leave a lot to be desired as a not-so-soft underbelly - and not a gaming haven - I'm interested in some of these bigger campaign scenarios given the potential for less-predictable outcomes at this level. Also - Italy seems more manageable than FiTe for me at the moment timings-wise. If there are any takers, I am still clinging to the hope of finding a willing opponent. |
